Pat Robertson Warns Town Following 'Intelligent Design' Vote

Pat Robertson Warns Pa. Town of Disaster Televangelist Pat Robertson Warns Pa. Town of Disaster Following 'Intelligent Design' Vote The Associated Press
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson warned residents of a rural Pennsylvania town Thursday that disaster may strike there because they "voted God out of your city" by ousting school board members who favored teaching intelligent design.
All eight Dover, Pa., school board members up for re-election were defeated Tuesday after trying to introduce "intelligent design" the belief that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by a higher power as an alternative to the theory of evolution.
"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city,"
Robertson said on the Christian Broadcasting Network's "700 Club."
Eight families had sued the district, claiming the policy violates the constitutional separation of church and state. The federal trial concluded days before Tuesday's election, but no ruling has been issued.
Later Thursday, Robertson issued a statement saying he was simply trying to point out that "our spiritual actions have consequences."
"God is tolerant and loving, but we can't keep sticking our finger in his eye forever," Robertson said. "If they have future problems in Dover, I recommend they call on Charles Darwin. Maybe he can help them."
Robertson made headlines this summer when he called on his daily show for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
In October 2003, he suggested that the State Department be blown up with a nuclear device. He has also said that feminism encourages women to "kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."

I believe in evolution, but Robertson is right. I mean how can the people who voted that intelligent design is bullshit become religious when tragedy strikes. Again, I'm not religious and whole-heartedly support evolution, but Robertson is just preaching what's in the bible. If you buy into that stuff, more power to you. Whatever gets you through your day I say. I'm not gonna tear someone down because of their vice.

Who said they did, or will?
Just because somebody is not in favor of ID being taught in school does NOT mean they do not believe in God, or evolution or anything else. It means they are against ID being taught in school.
Robertson is an idiot and likes to keep things in easy to understand (and misleading) black and white arguments.

I'm confused. Is he saying that God is going to cause a natural disaster there because they voted those school board members out? Or is he saying that they just shouldn't bother praying if a natural disaster strikes?
Either way, I think he's a nut. And he's sort of making God sound petty and vengeful.

Not at all like he is in the Bible....
Oh wait...whats this Old Testament stuff
Slaughtering the first born male, keeping the sun in the sky for an extra hour to give his armies more killing time, decreeing that a child be put to death for disrepecting his parents
Not petty or vengeful at all
Turn the other check right?

I've never read the bible nor do I ever plan on reading it. But I've never heard religous people talk about their God in such a way to make him seem so negative. If he's so awful, why worship him? Fear?

This guys is a moron, like every other evangelist out there.? They tend to put their belief in their god (that no one can prove exists btw) before they put the well being and education of actual living breathing children.? They actual refuse to believe in evolution.? Isn't that like refusing to believe in gravity?? Stupidity to the core.
I have no problem if you want to believe in a god or whatever, but when you cross the line into this type of extremism, that's when problems start.? The world would be so much better off if people put faith in themselves rather than in some piety.? If you removed religion from this planet, there would be far fewer problems including the elimination of terrorism.
No offense to you believers, but as Jesse Ventura once said "religion is a crutch for the weak".

Fear is EXACTLY the reason people worship.? Now... please NOTE that I am speaking in pure generalization here, but also from my own experiences as well... Most people believe, or revive their belief out of fear... because something terrible has happened in their life, or they're going through a hard time, and they need to believe that something is out there, guiding their way, something bigger than themselves, that is there to help them out of this mess that seems to have gotten to be bigger than themselves as well.
kind of like how W got elected in to office in 2004 (he wasn't elected in 2000, he was given office).? He and Cheney developed a campaign of fear, and they used that fear to strike into the heart of voters who then, blindly, went to the ballot box and voted for a chimpanzee to continue to run our country.
**My sincerest apologies to any chimpanzee lovers out there that I may have offended with my previous comment**

Of course not, they want u to believe so as to make more money, so they ignore bits like that - why they are damn inconvenient!

What posseses someone to worship beings that don't exist is rather curious. When u consider these various prophets didn't convince that many people AT THE TIME and in person that they were divine i find it hard to be convinced by a book written hundreds of years later......

You need to see more Southern Baptist preaching, then. Fire and brimstone sermons might be out of style for most evangelicals, but not to the hardcore believers like me! Pat Robertson should use the Bible instead of his bogus predictions; the Bible is a lot scarier and more effective. Oh yeah, and it's real, too; that's the important part.
My church doesn't even have air conditioning, which is a sinful luxury. Avoid churchs that need money for air conditioning in the budget. Those that don't have it are the really good ones, if you're looking for spiritual guidance instead of meeting relatives and friends every Sunday. Of course, doing both is great!
Terrorism and war would happen with or without religion because that's part of human nature. As for evolution, well, war is a great way of getting rid of the weak surplus population. See, just as heartless and cruel as any religious text can be. Religion or no, war happens. That's life.
Robertson is wrong when he's saying faith in God prevents natural disasters. Those happen because of human nature, sin, which is why we die. Christianity 101 stuff here. He's only saying this stuff because he's trolling for attention and media. It works.

Wow, everthing happens in this world. It could nearly agree w/ your statement !
For Pat Robertson - I wasn't really aware of his existence before this summer and the chavez thing - he's rather scary if you ask me.
