Maybe this is a well known fact already but Ive just heard that The Dolls were paid $300,000 by GNR for use of 'Human Being' on Spaghetti Incident  Shocked I heard it from Dolls manager so its legit.

Imagine how much that album cost them if they paid the original artist of every song the same amount  Undecided Theres about 15 songs on the album isn't there?

didn't know that. They can't have paid that much to everyone. Or maybe they did and were happy to do so because they were fans of the original bands anyway.

Gn'R were loaded anyway so why not give the idols that could use it a few extra bucks and a bit of exposure.

Nothing. The monies from that song went to the families of the victims (not to manson's heirs as was reported) and axl made a donation to some dolphin charity too.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dolls got more than any of the other bands since Duff worshipped Johnny Thunders.  I highly doubt Lee Ving of Fear got that much money from GN'R, and if he did he probably spent every cent of it on beer.

Well, even if they paid the same amt for each song, the total would be abt $3.9 mil... Peanuts for a band that spent $1.5mil for a 9min. video...  Wink

I heard they had to pay 60'000 $ to each band each time they sold 1 million copies of TSI...

Don't wanna be pretentious and all, but I think I'm right...

And 300'000 $ for Human being?HuhHuhHuhHuh

They should have paid like 342034892 million $ to cover Sympathy for the devil!!!!

To whoever asked who gets the money ie band/record company...

Sylvain Sylvain, original dolls guitarist, had to take a job driving a taxi in NYC because he was so broke after the Dolls ended. I heard that he didnt even start turning a profit until the day that GNR paid them that money.

Dont forget that two songs on that album were Thunders songs though so maybe they got $300,000 for each of them?

When the Dolls re-united for Morrisseys Meltdown they did Human Being as the encore. After the song finished they started it up again and David Johansen (singer) came out sporting a red bandana  Grin A clear reference to Axl as in all his career he had never worn one  Tongue

Can you guys imagine how much GNR had to pay for 'Live and let Die'? If they paid that much for Human Being, I would say LALD was about a million.

think about all the covers they did..must have been a shitload of money to lay out, at least with KOHD and LALD, I am sure they made their money back 2 fold.  I don't know about TSI or even SFTD, though.

Do you think Axl had to pay Manson for his song? I know that the Beach Boys bought lyrics from Manson for a song.

This was already stated - the monies from Manson songs go to charity - he cannot collect

I think it depends what contract did they do with each song owner...

Most of those songs were planed to be released as a Duff McKagan record and I don't think that duff can pay 300k for each song hehehe  Grin

maybe gnr payed that because some special legal issue....

I think the reason there wont be covers on CD is because it would cause some sort of a fan and media backlash. Imagine the response: It took him 12 years to finally put out an album, and he has to use covers as filler!! No covers for CD. If he recorded some, maybe they'll be B-sides, or be on the album after CD. Shocked
