What has Hollywood come to? What happened to real storylines and acting? Do fans only care about special effects? Modern-original movies are just lame , Yawn... Roll Eyes I think Hollywood has lost its imagination and magic they've had before . They're not as serious as they used to be . The only movie today that sent a chill down my spine was "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." But what's with the new Batman ? Joker, Catwoman, The Penguin and others aren't allowed to exist anymore? This has become the era where Artists are selling out and denying their talents for money. I can't see people 20 years from now considering today's movies as classics. Now I see movies from few years before that I never heard of probably because they failed . We need more movies even with classics like "Edward Scissorhands, Back to The Future, Terminator 2, Star Wars , Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore" and other classics . But those movies I mentioned had effort worked into making them , the movies makers weren't lazy like today are. This is highly unfair? because there's better actors out there that deserve a shot? at hollywood more than others.

It's true. Before Happy Gilmore, only 3% of movie directors were overweight. Now over 80% are a little on the fat side. Have you seen Michael Moore lately?

But who do we blame? Bush? Blair? McDonalds? It's disgusting!

So cliche - don't go see Hollywood blockbusters and complain about the script, what did u expect?

I think films are great, i don't see any declinbe and i don't have a problem with sequals.

But remember children - things were always better in the past, if it was made in the 70's its gold, same goes for music too Roll Eyes

well maybe if we stopped going there and eating this shit, they'll start thinking about creation ....
you are not forced to go there.
you can entertain yourself with an indie korean movie i can assure you. you just dont want to. you think big explosion in mr and mrs smith is the only way to easy entertainement. taht's wrong. it's the easy way to be dumb.

no need to talk about the past. THERE THOUSANDS of good movies out there. but people go see Burton's last money-making-scam because "burton is sooooo like totally undergound and cool ..."

Go watch Layer Cake. Not a sequel or a remake, not from Hollywood but still a good movie. Smiley

Haven't seen a really good one for a while now.

Disapointed often, however.

They go for the sure thing big buck movies.  Its a business, that simple.  Probably 1 out of every 5 creative movies make good money.  On the other hand, you put a sword in someone's hand, dress them in an old Roman outfit, place some aliens in the movie, a couple of lame jokes, and hire Speilberg then they are assured 60 million on the opening weekend.

i totally agree. in the last year, there've been so many remakes its unbelievable; charlie and the chocolate factory, KiNG kONG, War of the worlds, House of Wax, Bewitched, Amytyville Horror, bloody hell, there coming off a fucking production line. MikeB, you are right. we need some more original ideas 2 make movies. i have loads but dont no hu 2 tell.

its terrible. it was the last day of ma skool term/semester y'day and we watched a video in ICT class insted of working. the DVD's we cud watch were as follows; Any of the five Rocky movies or TERMINATOR 2  1, or Simpsons. they all voted 4 simpsons apart from me cuz i voted TERMINATOR 2. Every 1 thought i was wierd. i was like FOR FUCK SAKE THE SIMPSONS COMES ON EVRYDAY ON 2 CHANNELS IN DA EVENING! U CAN WATCH IT THEN. Also, i was in shock cuz these movies are classics and they were all dissin em sayin they were old. Dumbasses didnt no a gd movie if it hit em in da face.

It's better to burn out than to fade away...

The big problem, as I see it, is that the modern blockbuster tends to cost studios well over $100 million.  That's a BIG investment.  If you're a studio executive and you're going to invest that much money in a movie, you're going to want it to have the very best chances of success possible.  Thus, if you make a sequel or a remake, you're buying something with name value.  People might complain about a lack of originality, but chances are they'll go see it anyway if it's promoted enough.

Given the current state of huge action popcorn flicks being produced by the big studios and artsy human dramas being produced by independent film companies, it's actually pretty ironic when you consider that things were totally backwards a few decades ago.  The small studios produced the cheap action movies, and the big studios concentrated on the classy dramas.

My personal opinion is that things are far worse this summer than ever before because it's so much heavier on remakes than sequels.  At least with sequels, you have a better chance of seeing something new.  Remakes are more regurgitated, no matter how much of a "reimagining" has gone into it.
