The right has problems with him because he assisted in a gay rights case years ago.

Hardly holding up the right wings standard of bigotry.

OK, Bush is in charge of 2 wars, hurricane relief, now 2 SC judges and all the usual business.? Man, we are fucked.? This is a guy who failed at every other business venture he was involved in.? "Daddy, help!!"
I actually think he made a pretty strong pick with his first choice. Perhaps the most qualified person we have seen appointed in some time.

This is going to sound like I'm being sarcastic, but I'm actually curious...Have you ever thought Bush did anythng wrong, made bad choices, bad policy, etc?
Yes, along with Carter, he is probably the worst President of the past 50 years.? Iraq, Global Warming, Border, Spending, Abstinence, Energy Policy, Education Policy, etc, etc, etc.

Just because I disagree with him on most things doesn't mean that I won't point it out when I think he has done something well.? Roberts is a great choice, especially considering some of the other candidates that he was considering.? Name one justice that was more well-qualified than him when they were appointed?

I freely admit I don't know much about Roberts, other than that he is conservative.? I was just curious if you had actually learned about him or if you were a party line republican who thinks Bush can do no wrong.? The fact that you can see problems with him suggests to me that your opinion is more valid.?
He graduated number 1 in his class from Harvard College, and then magna cum lauda from Harvard Law School.  After that he clerked for Judge Henry Friendly, who was probably the most famous judge not to make it on the Supreme Court in the 20th century.  After that he clerked for Judge Rehnquist on the US Supreme Court.  In practice he has worked for the government and the private sector.  In doing so he has argued in front of the Supreme Court over 30 times, which is unheard of unless you are solicitor general.  From what I have heard he was also very fair once he was appointed to the DC Circuit, the most prestigious judicial post outside of the Supreme Court.  Judicial ideology aside, which I tend to be much more conservative on, he is probably the most qualified candidate we have seen in some time.  In fact, I was stunned that Bush was able to make such a good pick.  It was almost as if he just tried to choose the best person instead of some conservative ideologue or a minority just to gain votes.
