It sounds like London got the games because their project include significant "revitalization".  That's something the Olympic comittee has really been harping on, of late: Not just throwing huge sums of cash at building state of the art facilities that will lay dormant after the games, but having cities acutally clean up urban blight and invest in their city's renewal as part of the process.  London, from the proposals I've seen, did that much better than Paris.  Paris' overall proposal was flashier, prettier, and more expansive, but didn't seem to incorporate much of the revitalization aspect....

In summary, it seems Paris put together a proposal much more in line with the way the IOC USED to look at things, while London's proposal was much more in line with how the IOC has been looking at things lately.

Quote
should give 2 fingers up to Chirac the bastard, slagging off british cuisine, as if french food is any better, and fuckin slimy thing like frogs n snails they eat, and they eat whole finches in 1 mouthful.
1) ok, Chirac is not a good president, but this is not the subject.
2) concerning the food: In France, we just destroy you. When I went to london, I was ill during 1 week because of your food. in trafalguare Square it stinks oil because of all fast foods everywhere. This is a disgrace compared to Paris.

please don't compare Paris, yeah Paris, to London.

i'm extremely annoyed tonight, and also angry against the french because we are too "fair play" too nice, not aggressive enough. just loosers. i don't like when my country and my city loose. we need an aggressive strategy next time. But at least we respect the ethic.

It's politic, that's it. You won because of lobbying, not because of your project.

 how much did blair pay?

Yea, I'm sure I could go to Paris and eat in shit places, London recently had 9 of the top 20 restaurants in the world in a list compiled by international experts. But yea you can find shitty takeaways and hotdog stalls pretty much anywhere.

If not, they were the only ones.  The IOC had made repeated public statements to that effect and it's been all over the press.  It was one reason why NYC was anything more than a VERY long shot...because they were proposing a massive urban renewal and cleanup project as part of preparation.  London is proposing something very similar.  Paris was not, for whatever reason.
