wot was your first impression of UYI's afta the very 1st time u popped in2 CD player, tape, vinyl etc.

ma 1st Illusion album was UYI 1. i thort it was average but DDM, all the singles, Garden of Eden and the Garden all impresst me. afta th@ i thort the album was average. afta a month or so, i became obsessed with it, still am. i also lovd bad obsession 1st time round and BOB. Right next door 2 hell had a gr8 intro

UYI 2 i thought was pretty good album. My world wasnt dat impressiv. locomotive sounds betta live. i think they shud've  put a more blasting track to open up the album rather than civil war tho. still, pretty gd album. Get in the ring was kool as well.

wot were ur 1st impressions?

My first impressions of the two albums were "they could've been better, get rid of the filler and you could have two or one kickass album"

I was 16 when UYI came out. I was at the record store waiting for them to open. I was the first person in the store and immediately bought them. I was blown away. I couldn't believe it had finally been released! I listened to them nonstop for months. The sad thing about these albums, I realized much later, is that its not timeless. These albums will not have the aura that AFD has. It has a very dated sound, and as mentioned by other people, there's too much filler and the overproduction is insane. If they had spent less time on 'finishing touches', and did one album with about 12 of the best songs, it would stand the test of time. But when you consider the fact that we're still waiting for a new album, I'm glad they did UYI 1 and 2. A little bit of filler is better than nothing at all.

UYI is an amazing album. Ii didn't think it would be that great, but when I accidently popped in Don't Cry from I instead of KOHD from II and I heard the opening chords from Izzy, I knew that the song was a hit.

It took me about 6 months to get used to the other songs afterwards, but I came to apprecaite the album, especially knowing that it was pretty close at times to never coming out. Its an album none of us GNR fans shoud be taking for granted. there have always been 3-4 songs that I could have lived without and there are others out there that deserved to be on the album instead (like Shadow of Your love), but the covers are great, the epics are classic and Axl really shines with Slash, its definitly more an individual effort than a band effort.

that is why I like AFD more now. But UYI is great. Glad you got on the GNR wagon. Once you go GNR, you never go back.

Use Your illusion 2 (bough in 1992): blown-away. I love the bluesy vibe, the piano, really fantastic.
Use Your Illusion 1 (bough in 1994): desapointed. The album sounded (and still sounds) too "heavy" for me. Heavy in the sense I was desapointed with the production, it sounds too "cheesy loud hard-rock" there and then. Hard to explain. Some songs sound like cliche hard-rock, I don't like the production, it smells beer and really cliche hard-rock, maybe because the album is overproduced. I just liked don't cry, LALD, NR and coma.

Use Your Illusion 2 is my favourite album of all time. AFD is close behind.

Believe it or not UYI1 was my first GN'R album.  I got it in the begining of the summer of 2002.  Before that I only had some GN'R songs burned on a mix CD.  At that point I only knew the big hit songs by them.  That album made me a GN'R fanatic.  There were so many diverse songs on it, and they were all awesome.  The first time I listened to it all the way through they were my favorite band.  I bought all the rest of their albums shortly thereafter, and of course Appettite blew me away like nothing I ever heard before or after.  But it was UYI1 that got the ball rolling for me.  And I'm still obsessed with it to this day.

It took me a good 3 months to like UYI (I bought it first...) I thought there was alot of filler and I wasn't digging the speed in alot of the songs. But now I could say that I like it more than AFD depending on my mood.

UY2... hmmm.. It took me a good 5 months to like. But I think theres fillers.. o well. Still good
