West was a friend of the band. He also helped to write some songs. He died of a drug overdose in 1997.

What is interesting about West Arkeen and his involvement with GN'R... After Axl had fired Gilby, the should have called West. He proved he could work with the guys, he wasn't a guitar hero, but a good guitarist, good for rhythm... So why didn't they call West?

that's pretty much wot i was thinking. in the illusion CD's, there's a foto of him and im wonderin how com he didnt join. the deth from drug addiction explains a bit but they shud'v hired him and mayb released an album.

West also co-wrote or wrote It's so easy and back off bitch.

He was very good on guitar, and could obviosly help create an original tune.

How long after Gilby's "checks stopped coming in" did West od? Or did West od before?

That's absolutely correct. If memory serves me correct Wes actually od on pain killers, appearently he was servely burnt. I thought this should be clearifed b/c for me personally there's a difference b/t over dosing on hard drugs and pain killers.
