When I first got the album it was like "Hang on, why the fuck cant i hear Slash?" So I kept listening and eventually all these fucking great parts were coming out the more I listened the more I noticed them. Now I can hear Slash fine if that makes any sense hihi Although on the next album I would like Slash a little louder in the mix

Yeah that was the same for me, at first I was kinda pissed 'cause I couldn't really...like hear Slash.   The album as a whole didn't really hit for me until a month or two later, something just kept me coming back and giving it the odd spin and then I put it on one day and was like "holy shit, man how did I miss that...what the fuck listen to this dude, hell yeah rock & roll!".   It's now one of my favorite albums and I sure as hell can't wait for the follow up, should be hot!

I am so looking forward to the follow to Contraband and if VR's 2nd album is out before Chinese Democracy now that would just be a joke.

Am appaled mate! Velvet Revolvers new album will probably be out before Chinese Democracy but it just means that Uncle Axl isn't worried about showing up his old band mates. Chinese Democracy is gonna blow our heads off! I have total faith in Axl.
SO SHOULD THE REST OF YOU!! RARR! lol!

Chinese Democracy probably will be amazing (it would want to be) but come on. Slash, Duff and Matt really have made bigger names 4 themselves, and the nxt Velvet Revolver CD will probably be better than anything Axl can pull out of the air.

I think it will be better than Contraband, and Contraband kicked ass so it will probably be incredible! ok
I hope Slash will have longer solos though! smoking

I think the difference between Contraband and the follow-up will be sort of like the differene between "Core" and "Purple." Although I love "Core," "Purple" is more refined, the songs tighter, and the band seems to be more focused.

Contraband was recorded when the band members were getting to know each other or get re acquainted with each other.  On the new album, I think it will be a little less commercial since they have established themselves and have been playing live for awhile & bouncing ideas off of each other.

Then again I could be completely wrong.

I toally hear what you are saying. I am still hearing little fills and subtle parts to songs that are new to me here and there.

I just downloaded that video of Slash playing the anthems at that Baseball game (thanks to the guy who posted the link!), and damn, Slash is still the ultimate guitar hero, just so damn cool and such a great feeling player.

Having said that, I'm so glad we've got a band like VR around and still putting out great new rock music.
Can't wait to see what Slash, Duff, Matt, Dave & Scott bless us with on the new record!

Contraband isn't even a year old yet and we need a new album?? Usually it takes 2 years to put out a new cd...we're very lucky that VR is a group of hard workers and want to put out a new album so soon.

I just hope they take their time on it.

I like Contraband a lot, but I feel disapointed by it because I think it could have been so much better.? In my heart I know that VR-2 will be better, but if they rush it then who knows.? ?Undecided

I think a new album so soon would be great. People like Neil  Young put a new  album every year or every other year. We may have been lulled into thinking that  taking 6-7 years  for  an album means it will be good. Not  necessarily. If VR has good material and has the spark to record, I say let  them give  us a new album every year for the next 5-6 years (as we wait for the "finishing touches" to be completed on CD).

i want them to either stay the same or get heavier. I dont want no commercialised crap or weak rubbish. I feel that with core STP were great then purple was just boring and felt commercialised so i want VR to keep kicking ass.

SLAM DUNK!!!

« Reply #31 on: May 09, 2005, 09:14:29 AM »

I hope they stick to the similar style of Contraband. It is a great sound pulling the heaviest parts of classic rock and making them sound up to date and its real hard hitting the way it should be. I disagree with that Slash, Duff and Matt are trying to not sound like they did before. All the trademarks are still there and their styles havent changed, maybe improved but not changed. I think their just letting out the heavy side of them which in all possible ways fucking rocks.
As I was driving into work this morning (Monday, May 9th), I caught part of one of those "rock news" segments.? I'm pretty sure the guy said something like that music on the new vr album was gonna have a "country" sound to it.? nervous

Like I said, I missed most of what was being said but I really did hear that part.

From what Slash and Scott have said, they hope to have another album out before next Christmas.

I know its technically the "next" Christmas.... but what you really meant was "this Christmas", right?

I'd definetly take CD for christmas and then CB2 in february.. Fuck I would really like both albums at once even though cd would outsell vr's second it would be funny to see a new gnr album wtihout gnr in it doing another album rofl
