How easy would it be to recreate studio quality versions of new songs?

The whole TWAT thing and probably watching too much 24 (series 3) got me thinking about whether it would be possible to recreate Chinese Democracy.
Supposing you took the live tracks (Riadyh, Silkworms, CD, The Blues and Maddy), Boston promo pieces, samples of Axl's voice from here and there, how hard would it be to come up with a fan's impression of what Chinese Democracy might sound like? Would it be possible without actually recording the the parts in the studio?

I made studio sessions. Studio work is extremely...how to say.... it's a torture. a real torture. It's really HARD. Every single note is fucking analysed. You can easily spend 10 hours non-stop in the studio just to analyse, re-analyse and re-re-analyse a 30 seconds guitar solo: "
is it the right tone? is it the right tempo? is it enought emotional or agressive? and what about if we try this or that? yeah ok let's try this. right! what about the mix? guys do you think we should put delay? or wah-wah? or more echo? ehh what is that the drums aren't right. let's re-record that drums part. The bass? up the level we don't hear it enought
." etc... it's hundreds of questions for each songs recorded. It's like a GIANT puzzle
I can guaranty you that recording a Guns N' Roses record could probably be one the hardest-working experience ever on this planet...it's very likely?thousands hours of hard-working. Thousands.

Scabbie, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about "24" the tv show when I heard the mysterious TWAT instrumental. It was like the "Cyprus audio" all over again.
Plus, I don't think Axl has enough time in his entire life to make Silkworms suitable for my ears. Maddy, The Blues, CD and Rhiad have to be done by now, they are excellent songs.

Fuck, I forgot about the Cyprus Audio (its been a while since I watched series 2, on series 3 now)! Mind you, I'm not sure if even the CTU could lay their hands on a copy of Axl's cd?
Anyway, I'm interested to hear from the technical posters about how you would go about the process of recreating the live songs and turning them into some kind of studio quality version. I'm not that familiar with music technology so remember to go easy on the acronyms and explain simply!

I dunno, but what we have from the studio clips are not enough to recreate. Plus, the soundboard versions were mixed on two stereo tracks. If they recorded the songs in 18 track (or if we could get one of those records), I'm sure anyone could make the music sounds more like studio.
That's why I recorded my own version of Madagascar. I wanted to put a decent version with everything mixed right. Well, I guess I did the guitars too loud, but I was hearing everything right on my headphones when I mixed.

Lol, Axl's taking so long that we're even trying to do his job for him by making studio versions out of live tracks!
I too would love to hear studio versions of the tracks we heard live (Minus 'Slikworms') but I don't think anything we put together would do them justice to be honest, we're just gonna have to carry on waiting :drool

It`s a interesting point of view. Basicly i like Silkworms. Probably you`re right - Chinese Democracy is one of the most hard making albums of rock history. About "24' maybe will be good to ask Jack B to find Chinese Democracy records for 24 h and make it approachabilit for as.

A lot of people have done their own versions of the new songs, and they sound absolutely fan-friggin'-tastical. Someone over a newgnr.com did the intro to 'Silkworms' and I swear, it would pass as the legitimate studio version. Really great...

This is the craziest thing i've ever heard of. But if you could pull it off, you would have the greatest 'get rich quick' scheme in history!!

When you say 'their own versions' what have they done to them?
I'd like to hear some of them, the better ones of course.
