Part of our lives
«

In the Axl-Zepplin thread WAR? mentioned how they imagine "Our kids will be talking about (CD) years from now." and it made me think about how we will have this entire experience/story to relate many years from now...
Remembering these times... this entire experience... this period in our 'fandom'.
I actually picture myself sitting around with my
grandchildren
one day and my
kids
telling them about how their 'crazy' grandmother was. Like how I jumped around like a lunatic the night of the VMA's! lol!
I an imagine that they'll likely hear about how I acted the day CD came out
Anyway, so what I realized is that for many of us it is part of our lives - in one way or another...
whether its your boyfriend or girlfriend... husband or wife... the people who know us best - know our affinity for this band and will totally expect our huge reaction when things come around for us again GN'R wise.
Could be your friends at school or your co-workers or other friends who just know what a huge fan you are.
One day at my old job I was having a really shitty day. A co-worker who sold vertical blinds once bring me over an envoleope with: For Mrs. Axl written on the outside with a smiley face - inside was a pic of Axl that she cut out from a magazine and had mounted on a section of a vertical blind slat! It was too cool and it cheered me up.
well... before I bore you guys
too
much...
if you get what I'm talking about... please share your stories

Very cool post!! I totally relate to what you are saying. I will never forget that feeling I had on the day 'Illusions' came out. I'll remember it for the rest of my life!! I'm sure it will be the same for CD. I just hope it comes out before I die.

thanks. and don't worry - it is going to come out.
btw: i don't mean to 'step on' the 'highlights' thread...
i just think it'd be cool the hear from you guys stories that include how friends and/or family relate to your GN'R 'fandom'
like... well i spent new year's eve 2000/2001 in vegas for the HOB show...
and I spent new year's 2001/2002 in vegas for the Hard Rock shows...
so coming up on new year's 2002/2003... AND 2003/2004.... AND 2004/2005 my kids teased me saying how they guess I'd be spending NYE at home...
(insert kid's wise ass voices here) "since GN'R isn't playing NYE
this
year...
"
I expect it to be a running joke for years to come...
or until GN'R does another NYE show!
In which case I'll be like: "In yo face!"
to them

I also jumped up and down like a drunken ninny during the VMA's. To which my roommate then thought I was gay and spread some nasty rumors, but I cleared that up really quick when they saw me with a tasty girl named Brynn.
I spent the whole summer when I was 12 asking my Dad daily for appetite for destruction but he wouldnt let me over the explicit lyrics, so eventually I went out and cut peoples lawns and babysat..and my Pops goes "if you are responsible enough to have a job and watch peoples children you are responsible enough to understand not to use the language that is on that album...and Bamm..he let me buy it!
My family thinks I am a fanatic with GNR, sometimes it creeps them out, but hell I dont care, they are a huge part of my life.

from the years 89-93 it is fair to say that I was obessed with GNR - my family, friend, school mates and pretty much everybody i came into contact with can attest to this. It was an age thing being a teenager etc.. but from 96-02 i pretty much forgot about them, didnt listen to the old stuff and had pretty much given up waiting. Id hear the odd bit about Axl recording some album and how hed taken over the band etc.. but it wasnt until 2002 with the tour etc.. that they captured my interest again and now I listen to and love GNR everyday - its like i totally rediscovered the band that made me passionate about music to begin with
i cannot wait for CD in whatever form it takes - i wanna hear where that madman Axl is at

I think most of us were freaking out when the VMA's happened!!!!!!!! I still love to watch Jimmy jumping up and down!
GNR is like a friend who is always there when you need them, As you know Eva, I work in a factory. Which pretty much sucks, but it pays the bills. The only thing about work that I like is that fact that we are allowed to have radios. I have a stereo right in my face all day!!!! We just listen to the radio, no cd player or anything, new stereo's go to hell fast in that place. Anyway, when a GNR song comes on the radio it really gets me threw!! I hang on to every note!!
As you also know I was a The Joint shows. It was my first time in Vegas and my first time flying. Not sure anything but gnr would have ever got me there. Can't wait to do it again!! I'll see you there Eva!!!!

Like I said, I only started listening to GnR in Sept of '04 but ever since then Ive been obsessed. And the whole house has become a fucking GnR domain. My mother keeps stealing my cd's because she remembers how much she used to love them back in their illusion days (Mind u she was only in her mid 20's when UYI came out), and if it isnt her its my little 8 yr old brother who keeps on stealing my greatest hits cd. And now hes telling me he wants to be a drummer, Matt Sorum is like his hero now (He also steals my Velvet Revolver cd). On saturday night my mom had a bunch of her friends over and her, them and my stepdad were all chillin out when I left. When I came out later that night the house was empty cept for my folks who were sleeping and what do I see on the living room coffee table but my fucking gnr cd's that theyve been listening to all night apparently. Its really become somewhat unbelievable how ever since Ive gotten into them its affect on my family and my friends who are all hyped up about Chinese Democracy and the thought of going to a concert when they tour again (each of us agreed we'd fucking throw away 2 or 300 bucks on a ticket without thinking twice). And now my brother whos really into rock n roll wants drumming lessons lol. I guess when I move out Ill get him a drumset of his own, this way they wont miss the constant barage of noise and racket him and I make when Im gone. Even telivision, Ive never seen more gnr shit on VH1 than Ive seen in the past couple of months. And I cant wait till the day my kids steal my Chinese Democracy cd's the way I always nab my stepdads Who and Led Zepplin albums. Although I put them back afterward because now I have all that shit on my iPod so I dont mind when my fam nabs my gnr cd's.
Hopefully I wont become angry and bitter about them listening to Chinese Democracy the way many Zepplin and Who fans are with their kids. You know what I mean, the ones who say "Hey ur young u shouldnt be listening to that, thats my music u dont deserve it. Listen to fucking Usher or Ashlee Simpson or some shit"

It always makes me happy when people say they heard a GNR song and they thought of me, (they also say the same thing about Hello Kitty!) I have so many wonderful memories of Axl and GNR. I will never forget the first time I saw November rain and I completely fell in love with Axl. A very special memory is when I quoted November Rain at little Max's funeral service last November and i called him the Axl Rose of the cherub choir! I also had a wonderful time at the Joint in las vegas and at the Allstate Arena where i was miraculously moved up to the front row both times!

Annie, Hello Kitty rules!
I think about the VMA's alot too. I was at my friends house watching them, and I was on here all night reading the rumor. I about fainted when Jimmy came out wearing the t-shirt. I've loved GNR for a long time. I always dreamed of the day when I would go see them. I was so jealous anytime I met someone that saw them. I named my cat Axl for crying out loud! They definately became a part of my life.

In honor of my favorite band, I'm regularly wearing my Use Your Illusion t-shirt to the gym. You'd be surprised at the assortment of reactions you'll get from doing this. I highly recommend it if you want a conversation starter! I wear it proudly.

I wish I could sit here and say "oh yeah, i remember when illusions came out.? it was great" or "the gn'r concert i went to was the great time of my life"
I wasn't a big guns fan back when the '02 vma performance occurred.? but i did watch it.? i was familiar with a few of their songs (my sister was a guns fan back in the day).? but even though i wasn't really a fan, i knew there was something special about that performance.? i dont think i even knew that those guys weren't the original gunners.?
Anyway, i saw a commercial last year for the greatest hits album, so i said what the heck and i bought it.? I loved it to death.? So i got appetite, illusions, lies, spaghetti.? Got all the dvds.? there is just something about Guns N' Roses that is different from other bands.? I like AC/DC, Metallica, Zeppelin...but GN'R is different.? They just had the whole package.? And Axl is the best frontman i've ever seen.? And it's not a "vintage" thing like some people have.? You see a lot of teenage girls wearing Guns or Zeppelin t-shirts cause it's "cool."? I genuinely love this band.
So yeah, i check everyday to see if there is any news on CD like everyone else on the board.? i download video clips, mp3, whatever.? Even though I haven't been a gunner as long as most people on Here Today Gone To Hell, I feel as though I am.?
ROUND TWO!?

Yeah my friends know me pretty well. The other night ago I had a dream that Chinese Democracy was released (quite a weird dream i might add) and the next day at school i told my friend "Dude, I had the best dream" and she cut me off from there. Also, my other friend got me the Dvd of the Tokyo show, but I already had it!

Wow. I inspired a thread!
I know that my family and friends will think of me the day the album announcement is made or whenever they get wind of it. we might even hear from people we haven't heard from in a loooonh time. In college, my fraternity nickname was "Axl" and it was on the back of my jersey with the number 22. Wow, that was ten years ago. i suddenly have a wave of great memories. We used to have a band that i sang in as we slaughtered GNR tunes...it just goes to show that when you love a band like we all do, their music is woven into the fabric of all your sweetest and not so sweet memories.
The first time I fell in love, Sweet Child O' Mine was on the radio. The first time my heart was broken, November Rain was on MTV. I can't tell you how many insane relationships I've had that I can attach a pissed off GNR song to (sorry ladies, you brought it upon yourselves---well, most of you did) I remember that even the day I buried my mother, as I was carrying her coffin with the other pallbearers, the ending coda of November Rain was in my head. Just seemed perfect to describe my horrible pain inside, summed up in Axl's enraged and morose scream growl at the end wih Slash picking a melody so beautiful, so tortured...they were a part of my life then, too.
I love this band. In any incarnation because it relates to some of the deepest stirrings, longings and emotions that make me who I am. I'm very happy I picked up Appetite almost twenty years ago. It's one of the best things I ever did. And I know that these guys probably don't read this, but, if they are, "Thank you". Hope to hear the new album soon.
Peace, and thanks, Eva!

aw... thank
you!
Thanks for sharing such personal memories.... That was very touching. :')
So many lyrics come to mind... at times when my emotions seem to overwhelm, they comfort me as they echo understanding of feelings that I myself had not previously found words for.
Brings to mind a great quote from Axl: "If somehow through me they're able to know themselves a little better, that's what's cool.

My story is pretty much the same as BaDoBsEsSiOn418. Now I have all the cds/dvd's. hell, I even have the GNR watch. My problem is that I'm still in High School and everybody talks crap cause I listen to GNR. I wish Axl would release this album so I can have a story on how i rubbed it in everbodies faces on how good GNR is.
