Here Today...

« on: March 09, 2005, 12:28:13 PM »

Assuming that gnr are in the planning stage and that the album is done or near done. How long should the remaining parts of the plan take?.How long to make a video?.
How long to get interviews set up?
how long to arrange T.V appearances?
How long to arrange a tour?
And does anybody have an idea as to how long previous gnr vids took to shoot  beer

Or in Gnr's case, months shooting and years editing  Wink

I highly doubt that GNR will tour. They won't do any TV appearances either. And don't bet any money on them doing any videos. Axl is too whacko to do normal promotion for CD. I think CD will sell millions and millions of copies, but it won't be because the band promoted it. It will be because everyone has waited so long for it. And because it will be a MAJOR news story the week of its release. In fact, about 90% of CD sales will probably be in the first couple weeks of release.

wow, jameslofton, you should work for foxnews. Your 'fair and balanced' analysis is astounding.

I think you are wrong on just about all points.

Out of all the forums I read throughout the day, that was the best post of them all.  Bravo!

You're right, Axl is completely nuts. To be honest i wouldn't be surprised if the album is just the sound of chickens clucking for 45 minutes.

I just can't picture this band doing any videos. But that's not really a bad thing. Metallica went many years without doing videos and it didn't hurt their career.

It's not your conclusion that we're disagreeing with. We're disagreeing with you basing a pretty plausable conclusion on axl being nuttier than a snickers.

If you'd said there'd be no interviews or videos cos axl hates the press you might've got on better.....

You guys need to deal with the fact that GNR is not going to 'rule the world' like they did in their prime.Sure, CD will be number 1 for awhile, I even think it will sell between 20-40 millin copies, but it will not be promoted like a traditional record. CD is going to be a worldwide media event. It doesn't need videos to sell the product. And it definitely doesn't need a tour. In fact, a tour would only bring it bad publicity. CD will sell itelf. If Axl is smart, he will take this advice.

thanks for the laughs guys!  ok

*composes self*
ahem, um... so time scale?  *shrugs*  I think it won't be announced until all these these are set to go.
that being said - i have no idea how much time they would take to do anything
i don't think there are any 'hard and fast' rules when it comes to these things...
especially for this band.
And yes they will tour.  And I do believe they will do TV appearnces in some form or another.

They will never do tv appearances!! They didn't even do that in their prime!! They just did a few awards shows and thats it. They never did SNL,tonight show, etc. Although I would love for GNR to do VH1 Storytellers. That would be the perfect show for the band to perform. Axl could give us alot of info about CD between songs. It'll never happen though.

They will never do tv appearances!!

The new band already did a TV appearnce - the VMAs

They never did SNL,tonight show,etc.

The did a late show appearance performing "used to lover her"
And also Live Aid on TV.

I would love for GNR to do VH1 Storytellers.

I agree that would be AWESOME.  I'd love to be in that audience!  ok

From what I've read, most albums take around 3 months of promotion to get ready. For instance, if Guns management wanted a feature article in Rolling Stone and were talking with them right now, you would be probably looking at May or June for the article to be printed. And usually that article would probably coincide with the album release date in some way. These are some of the things that the label and management have to do before they are ready to announce a release of a new record.

I think jameslofton is jordan shur. Apparently Axl is encroaching on Ashlee Simpson's fantasy fanbase.

« Reply #18 on: March 10, 2005, 01:15:46 PM »

I kind of agree with some of the points made.  I mean of course there will be a tour that's going to be the key factor as with any rock band.

But i personally don't see Axl changing from how he has previously worked on promotion.  I think there will be a chosen few appearences - probably only in the US.  But i don't see him playing things the way we see bands and artists do these days - i don't think he could give a shit (and i mean that in a positive way) to work his ass off selling the album and the concept of the new band.  Playing the same song and answering the same questions interview to interview. I don't think we will see that.

As rightly mentioned GNR did almost nothing in the way of regular TV promotion.  Of course there were a few specials on MTV over the years. But that has totally changed now from what it was.

And they weren't at Live aid   as someone mentioned previously. Maybe you meant the Freddie Mercury  tribute?  That was probably their only mainstream Tv performance - in the UK anyway and that was a live concert and wasn't promotional, they were just a part of it.

It will be interesting to see what happens though because Slash and Duff used to do alot of the interviews and they could because people knew them and wanted to hear them speak...with these new guys ... i dunno people really just want to hear from the main man himself now don't they?

some quotes just make me wonder!  Huh
Why shouldent GNR Show up on tv appearances? They did it in 2002 ! Why not in 2005/2006 or whenever!
And Videos! Why shouldent they make videos! If there is anyone in the world who would make some great videos! Its Axl Rose!
The thing is that we dont know that much about the band yet, and then we just assume things, the silence make us blind!

An by the way! Tommy Stinson said that there WILL BE VIDEOS! Soooo Back off!
