Correct me if I am wrong...but we are longer waiting for AXl to release CD. The record company officially owns the music? Right. I know it would be easier with AXl supporting the record however this thing must be coming out this year becasue the record company reported big losses last report.

Also, if Axl sold his part of the old gunner music...it would make sense that each song was re-recorded. We will more than likely hear the newer version in movies etc?
Anyone know if any of this could be correct?

That Axl has been allowed a decade and millions of dollars in advance for the new album demonstrates that he indeed pulls some considerable weight with his music label.

However when all is said and done, business is always business, and the music label will want a return on their investment.?

That is why there has never been a question if we will see Chinese Democracy.? Only when...?

...Unless Mr. Rose would prefer to keep the album under wraps forever and simply write out a check to the label instead.

He's confusing GN'Rs management (Sanctuary) with GN'Rs record label (Interscope/Geffen).

Well I've followed this little saga as closely as I could since 1999 and understand it about as much as any fan can.

I'm not talking "losses."? I'm talking investment capital, otherwise known as "money."

Back in the November '99 interview with Kurt Loder, Axl said:

"The record will be about, anywhere from 16 to 18 songs, but we recorded at least two albums' worth of material that is solidly recorded. But we are working on a lot more songs than that at the same time... in that way, what we're doing is exploring so, you know, you get a good idea, you save it, and then maybe you come back to it later, or maybe you get a good idea and you go, "That's really cool, but that's not what we're looking for. Okay, let's try something new." You know, basically taking the advance money for the record and actually spending it on the record."

Now an advance that a company gives to an artist doesn't necessarily have to be paid back, in and of itself.? The fact is, however, the label has invested (depending on which figure you want to go with) at least $10 million in this project thus far.? Perhaps even closer $15 million.? They get that, and hopefully a profit, through album sales when the record is released and any touring the band does.

Again, it all comes down to "dollars and sense."? Axl, despite however independence he might have on artistic grounds and past success for former companies, does not live in a vacuum.? He and the band have a financial obligation to their label that, sooner or later, will be called in.?

Well, I was being pretty facetious. ?

As rabidly independent and self-willed as Axl is, I can't picture even him choosing to take a personal financial loss in exchange for sole rights to his record.

Remember, like Axl said, they're not recording the new record just to "put it on the shelf."

And neither is the record label!

I'm 100% sure its not the other way around, here's the list of artists signed to Geffen's label:

http://www.interscope.com/artists/artists_gef.asp

Its this damn publishing deal that's driving everyone mad!   Tongue

I think its more likely we're waiting for someone at Interscope to set a release date... I don't know who you'd look to for that.  I'll say "but in the meantime, its Jimmy Iovine time!"

Everyone, ask yourselves:

Does it really matter why CD isn't released? Does it make a difference whether its Axl or whether its some company, or some dude, or some aliens, or Fidel Castro. The fact remains, CD isn't here and all of this speculation wont make it any closer.

by 1999 he already had two albums worth of material, and it's now 2005 and he can't get it done, yet he blamed buckethead at rio for everything.. Probably saw omg tank and had to change that horrible industrial rock sound because it's outdated..

First OmG is one of my favourite tracks.  I think Axl just needs 4 months for one song as i read somewhere.   And maybe he didn`t produce an album, maybe he just took the money for his living style and recorded 6 songs to show the record company....   Roll Eyes

It's pretty cool to think that as we speak the album could very well be at a mastering factory right now getting pressed , inserted in jewel cases etc etc. Or some record company exec could be sitting in his office with a room full of "suits" blasting it on a huge ass stereo system!

Imagine for a second that at the very same time we have been sitting here talking about and writing about this album , at that very second , theres been people out there writing it , recording it , listening to it (be it rough mixes and or finished tracks) ... man .. you think about it enough and it drives me crazy. Just thinking that as I write this theres probably "somebody" right this second listening to tracks from this album!  drool

Saul that is so true!

I think about that sometimes. I think about how lucky those select few on planet earth are, who have heard new material since the illusion days.

Once again you show how clueless you really are.
