But then again, you also have to think about what he was doing
before
playing those stadiums..

drDrew.com: Name an album you've heard recently and liked.
GC: The new Lucinda Williams album, Water To Drink.
Water To Drink is a
Victoria
Williams (from the Creekdippers) album. Lucinda doesn't have one called that.

I like Gilby. He really saved the band (at least for awhile) when he replaced Izzy and did a great job handling the parts. I love Izzy, but Gilby was much more into the music onstage. After he was fired, he didn't appear bitter either, even having Axl on his solo album and singing with him in 2000.

'Dead Flowers' with Axl was recorded before they fired him....
Anyway, that was a very sad quote....

Gilby always seemed very likable and nice....
as for the $$ I read his wife (who is featured in the n. rain vid with gilby) makes a FORTUNE on designer jeans (Fankie B. jeans) and dresses the stars...so she's the suga mama!
Gilby was quoted as saying he doesn't like to do the small club tours bc it's discouraging bc ppl don't go--but I would---come to TORONTO CANADA Gilby! hehe
(was here one time b4 promoting his solo record at least once, but I missed it....boo!)
He says he likes to go to South America bc ppl there go and see him (die hard guns fans!)

I agree. Gilby was the perfect replacement for Izzy Stradlin'. He had many of the same influences (was a big Keith Richards fan) and brought alot to the table. After being picked up by Guns N' Roses he was told to learn 50 songs in one week before playing such gigs as Madison Square Garden. He also had a fair amount of on-stage charisma (more so than Izzy in my opinion) and even looked similar to his predescesor. I am only unsure of his songwriting abilities... I've listened to both his and Izzy's post-GN'R work here and there, but haven't really compared the two. Though it still pisses me off that Axl sacked Gilby and replaced him with Paul Huge. Gilby merely seemed to have the same thoughts on the band as Slash and Matt Sorum, which were that they needed to reestablish a hard rock sound. I'm pretty glad that Huge/Tobias-whatever is no longer around. The last thing Axl needed was someone who supported his sometimes-maniacal schemes. Besides, Slash even insultingly described him once as a "bedroom guitarist" in an interview. So just wondering, why did Axl finally get rid of Huge? Did he find Richard Fortus and realize how shitty Huge's playing was or what? Just wondering.

Paul ''Huge'' pronouneced ''hoogie'' left Guns N' Roses after the four show 2001 tour. He told Axl that he did not like playing live and so he decided to leave. He was not fired. He is an o.k guitar player but not as good as Richard Fortus, also Richard recorded Paul's guitar parts on the album in like 4 weeks, so he must not have contributed much

That is a sad quote must be a very low point in his life at that time

Not necessarly. He could have been only a bit cynical. He has the money and life most of can only dream about, he needn't have any regrets. He's doing what he likes. For me this quote shows that Gilby got over the whole 'big rock star' thing and can see it from a distance. Though I haven't talked with him yet?
