All of you who think Izzy or Duff(Duff?) would have been better have bad taste.  I love Izzy.  He has a cool voice but not for this band. Izzy is not a frontman nor is he even really exciting to watch.  Duff is great also, but sorry guys his voice is horrible.  Scott is a true frontman and is probably one of the best lead singers in the 20 years.  Not only does he have a great voice but you don't know what he is going to do on stage next.  Who started this thread?  peace

Izzy on lead vocals would've been awesome. If that'd been the case, I wouldn't've skipped VR's gig in Helsinki two weeks ago.

Scott is a true frontman and is probably one of the best lead singers in the 20 years.

Well there goes your credibility..

Again the main argument anyone can seem to bring for Scott is his stage presence - that he's a 'frontman'. Fair enough live he might be better - but even the most devoted of us won't see them live more than a handful of times - yet a good album we will be listening to for the rest of our lives. It's what the album would be like that bothers me - Izzy's solo stuff has the lyrics just lacks the killer guitar, Slash's solo stuff has the guitar but lacks the lyrics - don't take a genius to work out they have what the other needs.

I'll take Weiland.

Duff & Izzy never did much for me when they stepped into the spotlight. Well..., bloated Duff used to scare me I guess.

That's exactly the way I see it as well..

If Izzy would've joined VR, Dave certainly wouldn't be playing rythym.  Definitely would've preferred Duff N' Izzy.

The question is if Izzy really is a good frontman? A rock 'n roll band sucks without that.

Live yes - but on the album is an enigmatic frontman needed? Scott's got the personality and the..er...moves for the live scene and can get the band the publicity but i'm far more concerned with what it sounds like in my cd player - i'll take an album that only sold 5 copies but is pure genius over a platinum selling but average offering. Izzy N' Duff may not have made the band huge but they would have made a better album musically of that i have no doubt - maybe Izzy would have pushed Slash to reach his potential, i believes Slash is capable of significantly more than he showed on Contraband.

I agree with you there, but what would've happened if VR didnt make it big? Maybe the band would just quit playing music and we wouldn't have heard anything from them again.

No better frontman out there right now
Well there is this maniac sleeping in the hills. Once he wakes as DMx says all others will suffer a Depression.....

but until he wakes, Scott is up there. Even when the maniac wakes, Soctt will be up there. Not in the same level as the maniac but with some others a few notches below.

You also have Chris Cornell and Maynard. They are right up there if not better than Weiland. But when the rock genre sux theres not much too pick from.

As for the thread, VR would not have been taken seriously if Izzy and or Duff were doing lead Vocals. Scott was a good choice in terms of being a mainstream band. Scott is a great live performer but Izzy would have fit 10x better lyrically with this band. It seems as if Scott is at his best lyrically with StP.
