That is an interesting thought.  I really wonder the reception that the song would have gotten if it was on the Illusions.

 no

Not even close...Not even close to close.

Nasty riff, cool solo, etc. - "Chinese Democracy" is a great song.  "Rhyiad..." is not.

ya it isnt even close. rhiad has a better riff, a better solo, better lyrics, better drumming, better vocals, better EVERYTHING. Chinese Democracy is an ok song but it lacks originality. The verse is extremely bland too, the part where there is like no guitar and just a drumbeat and sound effects. Rhiad is a full on rocker that makes chinese democracy sound like a pussy. In conclusion, you are wrong, and I am right. How dare you insult my statements?

I like Rhiad better than CD. Great riff and great electronic groove. The lyrics are better as well. CD is good but I think Rhiad will be alot better coming out of the studio. Very Plant-esque vocal wails. To each his own. Grin

How is it propaganda? Its not liek the band boasted about that or anything. All Axl has said was that the songs they have played will not be the "singles" and he has also said they are holding back the big guns. All that means is that the band has a bunch of songs that they feel strongly about and are the "impact" songs.

Its not a far fetched thing to believe in. Actually it makes sense. WHy would the band play their best songs before they release the album and are ready to properly go at things.

Whether you think this band isnt capable of having some great songs in the vault is one thing, but fact is that they have songs that they are banking on and that they truly believe in. And theres no denying Axls ability to deliver a great song.

Well, it unfounded.  We as fans have no idea what in fact exists or the quality of supposed said material.

I believe you yourself have said something to the effect of "let the music do the talking, then we'll see".

Same thing here, no sense labeling material, especially unheard material for that matter as "big guns".  It takes fans to higher levels of expectation when the basis of that expectation is a one off statement from the artist himself whose view of his own material is obviously skewed to say the least.  It also takes away from the material he has decided to go public with and portrays it as substandard.  Granted IMO, that material as a body of work has been somewhere south of disappointing, but that's neither here nor there.

Simply put, it's all speculation until we actually hear it.

Chinese Democracy gives me hope that an Axl-led band can still produce good rockers. I *liked* a lot of the rockers on UYI (esp You Could Be Mine, Perfect Crime, and the first few minutes of Back off Bitch and Locomotive), but I haven't *loved* a GNR rocker since Appetite. Why do I continually emphasize rockers? Because rockers are what made GNR an important band in the first place. Hopefully CD (the song) is only a taste of what they've done in this area on CD (the album).

No, but we have an idea. For the most part everyone thinks the new songs are excellent. And when the band says that they have what they think are better songs in the vault, as a fan thats very exciting and promising.

And when a guy named Brian MAy comments on the material and says how wonderful it is, then theres a good chance it will be.

Without a doubt. The band still has to deliver musically. They have to still meet certain expectations. BUt until then we have been given a handful of  good to great songs. And when discussing the rest of the material that will follow we atleast have an idea of how good or bad it will be. And so far they havnt dissapointed.  And when Axl Rose says they have some better songs, I believe him.

This started because someone said that they cant wait to hear the rest of the album because the songs we have heard arent the big guns, the singles, the money makers. Its not speculation, its reality. The reality is that there are songs that the band strongly believes in. Whats wrong with that. I can seee your point if the band kept boasting baout this "big gun"theory but at most I have heard them refer to it once or twice. ANd not in a bragging manner. Just an informative manner in which they said yea we are playing some new songs but we are holding back our better ones.

There's probably some good quality boots of the RIO version because that was broadcast on satellite TV. Whether it's the best they've played it, that's debatable. But you will be able to hear the song very well and get a good idea. Plus you can probably find it on Kazaa or something.

The absolute best versions are the Boston (remastered sound-board) and Rio. The synths are more punctuated in the Rio version, which I like...

That is an interesting thought.  I really wonder the reception that the song would have gotten if it was on the Illusions.

I think you, me and the rest of the GnR community, know that this would NEVER have made it onto the illusions, because Slash and Izzy and Duff would NEVER have written the music to this.  It's not in the league of the Illusions worst stuff.

the song is average for me. Neither bad nor good. Nothing especially great.  Maybe the studio version will be better...I hope Axl wrote much much better songs over the past 10 years than this one.
the blues and madagascar are far better.
