Really?  I didnt really see it that way...

Yeah, the author calls him a fuckup, but other than that, the article is pretty fair and actually good.  Theres no criticism of his performance (no opinion on his performance at all, unfortunately).

The assessment of the album sounds very promising...

"Although there are bound to be Stone Temple Pilots fans that disagree with Weiland, Contraband does live up to the supersize expectations that surround it. Its introductory single, "Slither," is appropriately aggressive and instantly memorable - "a perfect marriage of STP and GN'R," Weiland says. Tunes like "Illegal," "Headspace," and "Spectacle" push the envelope even further toward a new brand of swaggering rock. But the album's most memorable moments are its ballads, "You Got No Right" and "Fall to Pieces," both of which feature gorgeously complex, Beatlesque melodies.

Because "Fall to Pieces" closely adheres to a classic power-ballad formula, it's hard not to recall Guns N' Roses, particularly since the song's centerpiece Slash solo is every bit as fluid and lyrical as his memorable lead break on GN'R's "November Rain." And yet the song - like the rest of the record - sounds nothing like the plug'n'play nostalgia of other post - GN'R outfits, like Slash's Snakepit of McKagan's Neurotic Outsiders. Contraband sounds like a product of 2004 - if for no other reason than Kushner's splashes of odd tones and textures. "He's the secret weapon," says McKagan, who had enlisted Kushner for his most recent post-GN'R outing, the Seattle-based Loaded.

Indeed, Kushner's lush, electronics-inspired soundscapes provide a necessary counter-balance to one of the most instantly recognizable guitar players of all time. "When I get a guitar solo, you're gonna recognize it," Slash says. "And that's okay, as long as the whole band doesn't sound like GN'R. And it doesn't. Everything has been tweaked in too many directions."

Sounds good...

Matts a funny motherfucker...

"Sorum, for his part, is less concerned with people associating him with his Guns N' Roses glory days. "I'm still boning 18-year-old chicks because I was in Guns N' Roses," says the drummer, who is the band's only bachelor."

You have to appreciate his honesty  ok

Thanks a lot to Gypsy

Well from what I saw, Matt is telling the truth. The only bad part is that i'm 18 and he's stealing from my age group.  Wink

The shortlist of candidates eventually included Days of the New's Travis Meeks, singer/songwriter Beth Hart, and Skid Row's Sebastian Bach. But no one was the right fit - not even Bach. "I love Sebastian," McKagan says. "But even though the songs weren't anything close, we sounded like Skid Row. We were looking at each other like, We can't do this. He can sing like a motherfucker, but you hear his voice and you think Skid Row. We didn't want that."

You hear Sebastian Bach and think Skid Row, I agree with that. But what do most people think of when they hear Scott? His solo album?  no

I understand that VR doesn't want to sound like an 80s band, but saying it sounds like Skid Row when Scott reminds a lot of people of STP is funny.  hihi

The first pic reminds me of Appetite's back cover. There're carpets, everyone seated...it does have some similarities ( others than having Slash and Duff here as well Wink Slash's jacket maybe the same  Grin

They all look good. Even Weiland does. Look at Slash for a moment and then grab your AFD cd and look at the back cover. His face is exactly the same. Looks like the guy hasn't aged much ( or maybe he's had something done as well...) Duff hasn't aged much either, actually, he looks much better now than 10 years ago. Look at Matt, is he the same guy on the Illusion pics?? incredible....

thats a good example of the effects of makeup. Duff and Matt don't really look like that. they have some wrinkles all be they do look surprising good after all they've been through.

and I rather it sound a little more STP than full-blown skid row. I love Baz but we wouldn't be enjoying all this media coverage, all these artcles, interviews, videos if Baz was the singer.

I know!!  This has annoyed me from the second I heard Scott on the songs.  I mean, any famous singer will remind you of the band they were in before.  And maybe a lot of people don't, but I prefer Skid Row to STP, and I would rather have Bach singing.  We'd probably have the record in our hands, and have seen the band live by now if Bach was the singer.

The good thing about Weiland is he's brought an image, and controversy to the band.  Rather than the predictable calls of washed up hair metallers that would have followed Bach.

I don't know why i'm bothering, what's done is done...all I can hope is that the album is good.  Very good.

Steven's drumming made the band; he made a big musical difference.  His sense of swing was the push and pull that gave those songs their feel, afterwards, nothing worked. ~ Izzy Stradlin
