Top 50 Hard Rock + Metal Frontmen of All Time

Oh no we didn?t! Yes, we did! We?ve put together a comprehensive list of the Top 50 Hard Rock and Metal Frontmen of All Time. The frontman is always the one thrust into the limelight and has the ability to make or break any band. So much goes into fronting a band, from singing to lyrics to stage presence to endurance, and all of these aspects were considered when narrowing down and ranking these iconic singers. Generally under more pressure than any other member of the band, these leaders have to walk onstage every night and make the best out of the most fragile and delicate instrument in the band: the human voice. Not every frontman on this list is counted among the most impressive by the technical standards of judging a singer, but the way some of them utilize their voice to complement their band is just as remarkable.

8# AXL ROSE OF GUNS N' ROSES

cool list. and considering the wide range of artists included, #8 is really impressive. Axl getting a lotta love here, which is cool to see. I'd put him ahead of a few more people, but can't complain about #8.

the list included classic rock (plant, daltrey, etc.), alternative (cobain, vedder, grohl, staley, etc.), and a bunch of different metal (dio, araya, hetfield, lemmy, halford, etc.).

Sweet! Axl may not have put out as much as some artists but what he has is top notch vocals! beer

Some obvious omissions off the top of my head(Lynott, Tyner, Stewart, Weiland) and some that have no business on the list (Taylor, Zombie, Maynard, Davis) but a pretty solid list nonetheless. Cool they got MacKaye on there.

There have been some amazing frontmen that have done it as good(maybe), and certainly longer than Axl (Jagger, Tyler etc) but no one was better than ?86-?93 Axl Rose(with the obvious exception of Elvis, of course, but that goes without saying).

Granted Axl had the luxury of coming later, and borrowed from the greats before him, but ?86-?93 Axl Rose was as good as it gets.
He took it to a new level.

Wow props for including H.R. of Bad Brains on the list.  I was pleasantly surprised by that one.  Also agree with LongGoneDay about Mackaye.  Another surprise.  I would definitely remove Billie Joe Armstrong.  Hard rock/metal?  Come on now.  I did chuckle at how Billie Joe and Tom Arraya were back to back on the list.  I guess I can see similarities between Green Day and Slayer.

All in all a good list though.  Axl is obviously my favorite vocalist from that list, but I can't argue against any of those guys above him.

He should be higher than 8th. Come on.

I guess if he'd put out more records maybe he would be? I'm cool with 8th though. That list is pretty whacked out though. I mean they have the right guys it seems just the ranking is rough. Chris Cornell in the 40s? Come on. That Iron Maiden clown #2?

It is all subjective I guess...

Just browsed the 50 guitarist list...

Slash is like #9 or 10 or something. Can't remember lol. That makes sense.

Randy Rhoades above him is shit though. The guy was incredible, and died at a young age but he didn't do enough to be ranked ahead of some of those guys on the list. Especially Slash.
