Being a Guns n Roses fan , a buddy of mine traded me this for a comic book I had. I was surprised and had never saw it before. But the introduction is very well written from 1993 , and Rose discusses his friendship with James , how the stories he written inspired the videos done and the idea to possibly do a Tales from the Crypt episode of one of James stories adapted with Axl starring in it. But it fell thru ...

I haven't read any of the book yet. But the introduction by Axl is nice. Has anyone gotten this ? (hopefully it doesn't get deleted)

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call the brotha terrible, but the only story I remember anything about was "Without You".

Why don't you take the time to read some yourself? What "people" say don't mean much more than shit....

If anyone needs a copy of this, I got a few signed by Del. Selling at original price, shipping and handling from Greece.

The book is great, I loved it, I wouldn't call Del a terrible writer, but then again I'm not Oprah...  Wink

I have one of the original printings of the book.  I read it but I don't remember much about it.  I've had it forever...

My personal opinion was that it was not written very well. The story was okay.

To be honest, Del's work reminded me of Charles Dickens and the way that he exposed the underbelly of Victorian England. Del wrote some very powerful stories about drug addiction and people on the verge of total despair. Without You was very good. Axl's intro was phenomenal. IMO Axl and Del are both excellent writers. ok

Including "Without You," there are fifteen short stories in "The Language of Fear" (plus Axl's intro).

IMO, what makes Del's stories so good is that he (Del) seems to put something in one or more of his stories that significantly hits a chord with the reader.

Like most GNR fans, I got the book to read Axl's intro and 'Without You.'
Sorry, Axl, at the moment I really don't recall what you wrote in that intro but I'm sure I remember that it was extremely well written.  ;-p

Anyways...

The first story of the book, 'A Tale of Two Heroines' was for me, one the best stories I have ever read ... EVER! ... because I "know" the people/places/situations he was talking about and I loved, loved, loved that ending!!!  Other people whom I gave copies of the book, however, did not get anywhere near what I got from reading that particular story (and were surprised and confused by what I got out of it).

On the other hand:

After reading Axl's amazing brilliantly-written intro, I read 'Without You' because supposedly that's what Axl based the Estranged or NR or whichever video on.  So one would think that story touched him (Axl) in some deep-meaningful way to inspire that video.  That story did absolutely nothing for me. It wasn't bad. I just couldn't relate to anything in it. BUT, as a GNR fan, it's a great story because we got an awesome video from it!!!

Like someone else posted, what makes any story, song, etc., good is what 'you' get from it.  It's a totally individual thing.
Read the book for yourself.  I bet you'll find something amazing in it.  ok

P.S.  There's a line from Prostitute that's also in Del's Do Sunflowers Have a Fragrance? (from Dark Delicacies III: Haunted).  So if there's gonna be a video, I have an idea for a slight alteration to Del's ending.....

I really recommand you read it.
I love that book, read it twice, when it first came out and just last year.  A lot of different kind of stories in there.
I wish we could read more from Del! Smiley
