SLASH Writes And Records Song For 'Phineas And Ferb The Movie' - July 8, 2011

Legendary guitarist Slash (GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER) recently wrote and performed a song for what his calls his "guilty pleasure," Disney Channel's original movie "Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Across The 2nd Dimension", which is scheduled to premiere on Friday, August 5 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel and Saturday, August 13 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney XD. Slash will also appear in the animated video to launch the movie, which he describes as "very rock and roll, even for a cartoon."

"Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Across The 2nd Dimension" features Disney Channel's dynamic animated duo, Phineas Flynn and his stepbrother Ferb Fletcher, as they go on their biggest adventure yet. When the boys discover that their pet platypus Perry is in fact a secret agent who battles the forces of evil daily, they join him on a grand adventure that blasts them to another dimension where a truly evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz has taken over an alternate Tri-state Area. This larger than life, action-packed adventure will have the entire family laughing out loud!

"Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Across The 2nd Dimension" was co-created and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Dan Povenmire (director for TV's "Family Guy"; director/writer for "SpongeBob SquarePants") and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh (writer/director for TV's "Rocko's Modern Life"; artist for "The Simpsons" and "King Of The Hill").

"Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Across The 2nd Dimension" will be released as a two-disc DVD set on August 23.

Now, we learn that the tune is called ?Kick It Up a Notch,? and that an animated video for the song featuring a cartoon Slash will premiere July 22.

?I?m a big fan of ?Phineas and Ferb.? I watch a lot of cartoons and I think it?s one of the best shows,? says Slash in a statement. ?It?s well-written, very original and the characters are great. This whole experience has been surreal because I?m a big Disney fan. To be involved in this movie and having written some music for it is pretty exciting. It?s an honor to actually be animated in the ?Kick It Up a Notch? music video.?

The soundtrack drops Aug. 2, while the movie premieres Aug. 5 on the Disney Channel. The show?s executive-producers, are psyched to have Slash contribute to the movie?s soundtrack. ?Slash is a rock icon, he?s our hero,? they said in a statement. ?Slash saw the movie with his kids and he liked it so much, he said, ?Hey, let?s write a song together!? It was really a dream come true.?

The song ?Kick It Up a Notch? featured a music by Slash and lyrics by the show?s creators. ?I had a guitar riff and they came up with lyrics and melodies instantaneously,? explains the former Guns N? Roses axe-man. ?Kids will dig it ?cause it has a lot of energy and the song has a great hook.?

I didn't think to look in the VR thread for this (I guess I should have...Slash solo project and all) and posted a duplicate in the main ex-gunners section.

I'm not quite sure what to say/think about it.  I caught part of it the other night, while my kids were watching something on the Disney Channel and I was sorta shocked.

I would LOVE to hear Slash's take on how he got involved with this and what the process was.

It seems like an odd match, to me.  The song (for what it is) isn't bad...but it's a bit jarring for me to see Slash playing behind 2 animated Disney characters (who, admittedly, my kids love).
