Computer Audio problem. Please help.

Ok, so I'm not all that great with computer problems. Basically my audio is fucked. Doesn't matter what it's from. A CD, youtube, music on my hard drive......it sounds like it's skipping all the time. And it's not the speakers themselves, because when I plug in headphones or different speakers it sounds the same. I thought it might be a driver, but my computer tells me everything is working properly. I have no clue on what to do. I'm sure it's an easy fix, and I don't want to take it in anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Your sound card is within the motherboard (I mean integrated) or is atand-alone device pluged to the MB? Sounds a like a hardware shit for me. Can you copy paste some hardware info from a system info app?
Maybe googling the sound card you can find something around the web about this issue.

Does it the sound skip in safemode? Have you installed any new software? How old laptop are you using?

EDIT; also disable any power save features you're using and see if it helps.

It's probably the sound card, so you might want to start with installing the newest drivers even if your computer says everything's fine. You can find them from the manufacturer's website. You can also google the type/model of the sound card and try to find similar cases.

BTW. have you tried using the laptop's own speakers? I just thought that it might be because of the audio jack (mine was broken once and the sound was skippy).

Yeah, but I want to hear the girl scream.....thanks guys, I'll see what I can find out when I get home from work. And yeah even through the laptop speakers themselves. I'll copy all the info about the computer when I get home. It all happened after i wiped my computer and reinstalled XP. Now the only audio option it says I got is Sigma Tel??  I don't have the little round speaker in the bottom right of my screen like I used to.

It sounds like you just got the wrong drivers, go to the manufacturers website and download the right drivers. If you got problems with the installation uninstall the soundcard from device manager.
