listening to CD now is kind of a bummer....

after my recent live experience post CD release, it is hard to listen to the studio versions of the songs....
like Sorry for example, it is so fucking heavy it's unbelievable live.....
in my opinion GNR should release a new live album....not just a compilation but an actual cd/dvd combo that reveals to the world just how heavy and epic these songs are live.....the band is tighter than i have ever seen or heard on old bootlegs....
this incarnation of the band really represent the best of RNR!!!
atleast i want a new kickass live album, be it 1 show or a tour compilation with the best possible takes, rants and jams!!!

Absolutely love the way Frank does Sorry, and yeah. I hope they record live.

have to admit, in the beginning i was very pro Brain and very much so less Frank.....
but after seeing them myself again, Frank has grown immensly as a drummer in my ears.....
right now i couldn't care less if Brain wants back in, keep Frank and record already
GNR as it is now is at a peak musically considering all those involved...

This has nothing to do with Brain or Frank.
Studio versions are always "lighter" than live versions.
It's not a special thing with GN'R or Chinese Democracy. It happens with most bands and records

i somewhat agree with you there, most music are more raunchy in live and or demo format.....but it's just my personal opinion that gnr of 2010, sounded a helluva lot tighter and more unified than in 06 when i saw them.....and obviously everyone has grown as they have toured and played....
and i really really enjoyed franks playing this time around =D
last time around i was a bit bummed that brain left just before they came to Norway.....
oh well, wasn't my intention to bitch xD
just wanted to bring forth my point of the monster GNR has now evolved into

I still love listening to CD..There is so much buried in each song, somethimg new discovered or appreciated regulary. I'm tempted to upgrade my car stereo just to pick up those subtle bits..

Yeah but there are certain things that get added live. For example, Franks build up before "nobody owes you..." in Sorry isn't in the studio version at all. But his added fills in CD & Better are.
I find that it happens more when a band gets to play tunes live before they're released. Frank played Better & CD live and his additions were tacked onto the album. I would imagine it would've happened that way with other parts as well if he/they'd played them live prior to the album release.

The album is perfect the way it is. If I had to choose between a live album and CD, I am going with CD. Believe it.

For me going to a consert makes the album sound Better. Not better than live, but better..it's just refreshing. I haven't listened anything else than GNR this week.

Some songs sound much stronger live - all of them are at least as good as the studio versions. Catcher in the Rye, Scraped and If The World are some examples as they sound much better live.

I understand your perspective... I do. There is a rawness to hearing GN'R do their songs live that kicks ass. But its, and I say this respectfully, insane to compare these songs done live, to the perfectly produced and mixed studio master recordings of Chinese Democracy. Especially considering they are really changing up these songs all that much like they have to some of GNR's older work. I totally know what you are saying though.
For instance, I heard patience from Lies a million times. Then, when I heard it live, I couldn't believe how cool the song was when half way through fucking drums kicked in. HOLY SHIT! That was a revelation. They changed that up and added drums to it. Badass. Way fucking cooler then Lies. That is a dramatic change though. The damn band jam at the end of Paradise is another one. Awesome.
Chinese Democracy the album is so goddamn perfect sounding and is so perfectly mixed and produced, it continues to amaze me. Axl's voice, perfect. Everyone is coming through loud and clear with fine detailing. This album has a surprising sound field. Bass is impressive as hell. Absolute ear candy coming through every time. This album is impressive as hell, everything about it. It is second to nothing.

I know what you mean. But i'm not talking about them playing what's on the album flawlessly - the rawness you mentioned is the key here. I dunno why, but Axl's vocals on TWAT sound really cool live, even if they do sound different... maybe even cooler than the CD version - I really mean cooler, not better or more technical. Bumblefoot's Catcher in the Rye outro solo sounded even better live to me. Scraped and If the World are some of my favorite songs live - the new intro to Scraped and the new outro to ITW are outstanding. Ron playing his improvised Shackler's Revenge solo and then doing the tapping in the end always amaze me.
Funny that you mentioned Patience, because I find the studio version *almost* unmatchable, haha. Axl's live vocals aren't on par with the studio version imo. The outro vocals sound much better live than the studio version though. The 2006/2010 versions of the song are as good, if not better than the studio version imo. Robin's and Ashba's eletric guitar, especially Robin's, made the song even better than the past versions.
