Hi,

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else, couldn't find it by searching. Anyway, the former RIP editor Lonn Friend was recently interviewed at "Used Bin Radio". In addition to telling lots of anecdotes from the glorious '80s he talked a lot about his relationship with Axl Rose. Very interesting, though the interviewers were harsh at times. Friend came across as a good guy. The interview can be heard here: http://purerockradio.org/audio/UsedBinRadio_Pod001.mp3 and a transcript of the juicy parts can be read here: http://gunsnroses.lefora.com/2009/07/20/lonn-friend-former-editor-of-rip-magazine-speaks-a/page1/

Cheers

EDIT: Sorry for posting in the wrong section and thanks for moving it here.

Interviewer: We have a segment on this show called "Axl is an asshole" and we run it every few weeks whenever there is a good Axl-being-an-asshold story in the news, which, you know, comes up fairly often this days.

I can understand why Axl doesn't want to deal with the medias anymore... Roll Eyes

Interviewer went in there expecting Lonn to agree with every word he said about him being an asshole... I like how he practically told him not to be so judgmental.  Not that the guy seemed to get it at all.

I remember that part of the Metallica behind the music where he said something about everything Metallica releases will go platinum and they are the Led Zeppelin of this generation, and Axl one of the greatest front men in the last 20 years and history has erased Guns N Roses..blah blah blah somethign like that..I remember being pissed off when I was watching that, and I'm glad to see Axl got pissed at it too.  I see what Lonn was trying to say, because I remember 1998 you couldnt find a GNR t shirt or any type of merchandise ANYWHERE.  It was that period where they didnt enter "classic rock" yet, it was sort of in limbo I guess.  Now you cant go to a rock store or just about any clothing store and not see some type of GNR shirt there.  But I remember the way Lonn said it he came off as a real dick.  Instead of being complimentary to Metallica which is what the point of the documentary was he took an inaccurate cheap shot at GNR.
