Here Today...

« on: December 18, 2008, 06:58:54 AM »

I took the myspace play count for all the songs on Chinese Democracy as a sample to determine popularity of songs on the album and what people are interested in at the current time.  It's interesting to look at, and will continue to be as we go on throughout the year with video's, more singles, performances, etc.  For example, Better has been slowely picking up on both the myspace play count and on itunes since it became a single.  Once the video for Better hits, I'm sure the popularity for that song will rise even more.  If GN'R plays live on a show or anytime during the next couple months, whichever song they play should start gettting more plays.  Once they start to tour again, i'm sure certain songs will pick up.  Just like the Kid Rock album, I believe this album is only going to pick up momentum as the year goes on.

Below are the play counts on that given day and percentage of plays for each individual song for the week of Dec10th-17th.  And taken again on Feb 23rd.

One thing that should be said is that the songs on the front page playlist are CD, Shacklers, Better, I.R.S, This I Love, and Sorry.  The songs not on the front page are likely not to get as many plays because a % of people probably never even go into the Chinese Democracy album playlist.

I can keep updating this throughout the year, but I will see what kind of a response it gets and see if anybody even cares.   I just thought it would be fun to put the numbers down on paper.

Yeah, I got some time on my hands!!  I have no job and like numbers.... you need help on your staff Axl? ..(;

Chinese Democracy gets played a lot because when someone go to GNR MySpace page, it is the first song on list, IMHO.

I would agree, but I don't think it plays when you go to their homepage.  You have to hit play I believe?

Not for me, plays automatically.  It's a fairly common, and pretty annoying, feature of most Myspace pages in my opinion.

A myspace band has the option of having their first song play automatically, or having a random song play automatically, or of having no song play automatically.

In addition, individual myspace users can also adjust their settings either to allow songs to play automatically or not.

Chinese Democracy does play automatically on GNR's page unless you're logged into myspace and have your settings such that it won't.

I'm surprised Madagascar isn't higher. When they first loaded the CD that was the one song I listened to over and over again lol.

You are correct, CD does play when automatically when you arrive on the page so you can't really consider the play count for CD to be accurate.
