King died for speaking out against injustice in all its forms, and specifically for speaking out against the Vietnam War and economic injustice in America and around the world. In fact, his wife and family won a wrongful death suit against Loyd Jowers and "other unknown co-conspirators" (aka the government) for MLK's death. I find it interesting that if it was supposedly the act of one racist man as we are spoon-fed by the government, then why is it that he survived the most turbulent time of his life (the early 60's when he was able to help get civil rights legislation passed into law) but then gets killed shortly after turning his focus to bigger picture issues? Why is it that we had a McCarthyist, racist head of the FBI (J. Edgar Hoover) constantly trying to frame King as a communist and slandering him every chance he got? Why is it that they couldn't get a ballistics match on the gun with the fingerprints?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyd_Jowers

And of course, the Justice Department did an "investigation" and found no evidence to support Jowers' claims. Ha!

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

For anyone who isn't familiar with his most famous speech:

I Have a Dream

You have some nerve calling anyone else on this board a troll considering how you post here.

Can't you find a better thread to post your nonsense in besides one like this?

I don't understand you're reply?

Would it bother you if Jesus were black too?

Dr. King was murdered.

King essentially died for the same message.

He had a speech at the place MLK was killed and announced he was wrong. That took some balls. Good for him.

He tried to bring freedom to all Americans, not just black. For that reason he was murdered. Hence, he died for you.

Political pandering. There was political strategy behind it, namely the fact that it might have become an issue during the election and he wanted to get it out of the way right now, not that it necessarily matters too much with the black vote (88% for Kerry in '04). But one of the analysts on CNN said that there are white Republicans that might have a problem with it, mainly because they are sick of Republicans that pretty much ignore minority voters and that McCain's reaching out to the black community on this issue makes that particular part of the Republican Party more comfortable with voting for him.
