Hi folks,

My brother is visiting Los Angeles in a week or so. Are there any bars, venues which are still around when the Gunners were together in the early days. The Whisky A Go Go, Barney's Beanery spring to mind. Any others? Cheers

Here's a tip. Be sure to check all the hottest clubs on Sunset on a Friday or Saturday night. Ask "Who is playing tonight." Dizzy Reed can't sit at home and usually jams with bands that aren't even posted here ahead of time.  I got to see him and chat with him in October in exactly that type of situation after a gig. The gig and band he jammed with was never posted here before OR after the gig Smiley

I won't name the band because it still hasn't been mentioned, and he might want to keep it on the down-low... yo

The Whisky, Roxy and Cat Club are on the same side of the road within 100 yards...thats on Sunset Blvd. Pretty cool hang out places.  The Viper Rooms is right across the Whiskey on the other side of the road. Also, on the corner of Sunset and Clark st, you can take a look at the apartments Axl and the boys stayed at with Vicky Hamilton back in the middle 80's.

The Rainbow kicks ass cause you can eat the biggest pizza on planet earth on the ground floor and then chill out in the upper level bar.

Then you have the Troubador, but thats on Santa Monica Blvd if I remember correctly, a bit far out from the Sunset Strip (I didnt check that one out though).

Canter's Deli and Pinks. Both spots they ate at all the time. There use to be pics up of them at Canter's.

i have been a few times to la and always had a blast.

At the rainbow there is the table guns use in november rain, pic of slash on wall above it. Have seen dino from fear factory there, josh todd from buckcherry, all just chilling at night. First time i went was during the day, got in a conversation with staff and manager, eneded up with free passes to the whiskey. Tower where slash and axl worked illusions was launched was there, heard its closing tho.

Cat club is cool. Pretty small, but if you get a chance, check out starfuckers(think its a tuesday there). Night we went, gilby was there, john corabi(crue), eric dover(snakepit). All cool guys and chatted freely. Its just a place for them to hang and have fun. Cost about 5 bux to get in.

Sunset strip tattoo, i got one there, had motley crue and guns platinum discs that they were given by band memebers tattooed there.

The Rainbow is a must see.  I've been there and they have a lot of GNR stuff hanging from the ceiling wall as well as they had pictures of Axl up (the ones that surfaced in 05 I think of him there smoking a cigar).  It's just a cool place all around.

LA is a great place.  Tell your brother to have a fun time  peace

and while at the rainbow, try to get in touch with the manager or the girls who work there. they have great stories on axl and slash. seems to be that axl is really 'nasty', to use their words

Rainbow is a Must, it's probably my all time favorite bar !! always fun people watching there.. best on a late fri. or sat. night though.
I've seen Lemmy playing video games there.. he's there a lot apparently.

One other spot to see , really close to the Viper room is Tower Records video store (it used to be there anyway), and the old tower records, those were pretty famous and several members of GNR used to work there.

The cathouse is out there too, i'm not sure where it is because now it's some other place but they bring it back as the cathouse sometimes.

Canter's has some good eats, that's worth checking out.

It sucks because a lot of the old clubs are gone like Madame Wong's.  Can't think of anything else but i will add more if i do.

ALSO, if you have the Reckless Road book there's a great little map of GNR sites in hollywood in there.
