Some Kinda Magic

« on: February 07, 2008, 12:04:14 AM »

Here is a funny story about the band at the end of 1990 - (wasn't so funny then, pretty funny now)!

I won a competition or something where I got to go on the Universal studio ride with the band. We were told to sit at the front of the train. You could hear Axl coming because all the necklaces around his neck were clinking together. For some reason, I was handed a banana.

Anyway, as we were going around the studio backlots on the little train thing, it was becoming quite obvious that Slash and Duff were a little, well, how should I say, merry. There were a few comments going on and Axl told the driver to stop the train. By this stage Duff and Slash were pretty much rolling on the floor with laughter and they literally fell off the ride.

I'll never forget the sight of Duff trying to get his long legs untwisted from underneath him.

Needless to say, there was a bit of damage control going on after that.  Tongue

BTW, Axl's favourite bit of the ride was when the subway floods.

Hmm, the big banana. What can I tell you.

Well, this big (californian size) banana was ceremoniously handed down to me from the back of the buggy where Axl was sitting.

I of course, did the only rock 'n roll thing that one could possibly do when one is handed a banana from Guns 'N Roses - I cooly stood up and tossed the said banana into the bin. It was a 'bad girl' move and did get some "oohs" form some of the people on the buggy ride.

Again, it was one of those surreal moments in the day such as when I saw the small swimming pool where Jaws was filmed.

Yes, that is the question - what is the significance of the banana? Why was it given to me. I thought, well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!

Um, you know how it was kinda hard for Axl to be alone - Steph was there too.  Roll Eyes She liked my shoes.

Then there was this one time at bandcamp..!

That is so awesome, Angel Down!  That's the exact kind of thing I think would be fun with the GNR members, past or present.  I can just imagine riding the tram with those guys.  I always liked the subway part too - kinda scary because they reenact it so well.

If I can remember correctly, we weren't allowed to take pics of the guys sitting behind us, but I might be able to dig up some pics that were taken whilst on the ride - eg. the square where 'Back To The Future' was filmed, the mighty Jaws pool. You will just have to imagine the band sitting in the buggy. I'll see what I can rustle up - photos weren't digital then - may be too big to upload. There is a photo somewhere here of Axl riding in one of the buggy's at the universal lot.

Anyway, you've got the gist of it. All you need to imagine is Slash and Duff laughing uncontrolably behind you, Axl's chains clinking around his neck everytime he moved, and instant flash flooding in an underground subway and you're there.  Tongue

Thanks GypsySoul.

Though very surreal, it wasn't but a merry dream.  Grin  Wink

Anyway, I'm going to wade through photo albums from 17 years ago tonight. See what I can find. Scary thought!

TIMELAPSE

nervous Thanks dark Angel!  Tongue I recommend that you all go to your photo albums from 17 years ago!  nervous Or, maybe, don't, considering what I just went through. Obviously, I wasn't into photography then, pictures too grainy and big too upload. I'll spare you late 80s fashion - you'll just have to believe.  Tongue
