Washington state lawmaker resigns amid gay sex scandal

Associated Press - October 31, 2007 6:13 PM ET

OLYMPIA, Washington (AP) - A Washington state legislator has resigned amid revelations that he had sex with a man he'd met at a pornographic video store while in Spokane on a Republican retreat.

The move comes days after state Representative Richard Curtis (R) insisted to his local newspaper that he was not gay and that sex was not involved in what he said was an extortion attempt by a man last week.

But in police reports, Curtis alleges he was being extorted by a man he'd had sex with in a hotel room. The other man contends Curtis reneged on a promise to pay $1,000 for sex.

Curtis, who's is married and has children, has voted against a bill that granted civil rights protections to gays and lesbians, and against a bill that created domestic partnerships for same-sex couples. Both measures later became state law.

It's really getting to be too much now. How many republican gay sex scandals have we had over the last couple of years?

These guys must hate themselves-voting against the rights of homosexuals during the week, and running off for anonymous gay sex on the weekends.

These things are coming up so much that maybe a "Gay Republican Hypocrite" thread is order. Perhaps it could be called "In The Log Cabin's Closet".

I kind of feel sorry for these guys.  For whatever reason, their family, peer, or moral pressures are driving them to live these double lives.  The hypocrisy is bad, but in reality we're talking about individuals that are dealing with a great deal of personal torment.

For most of us the hypocrisy is a reason to dislike these individuals.  OK, fine.  But for the GOP, the reason to dislike these individuals isn't the hypocrisy...it's the homosexuality!  They are being cast from their party because of questionable actions...they've being cast out for being gay.  It's sad that this form of bigotry is so acceptable.
