he's been listed on their site for years.

Yep!  Old news...

It would take away some stage presence, but Eddie Vedder, Mick Jagger, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, James Hetfield (Metallica-Gigantic band) all have sung while playing guitar and been huge.  Same with Beatles.  But, I agree, I like when the vocalist can commit himself 100% to singing.

Now imagine what kind of stage presence they would have if they didn't play guitar and were mobile singers? it would be as wierd as seeing Axl as a guitarist singer...Axl is the man...he is charismatic and full of energy and tears around the stage like a madman without looking campy.  Most frontman in Rock bands (who don't play guitar) just look campy and like posers....sorry but Sebastian Bach is one...and not to mention Jon Bon Jovi.

I dunno it just sort of smacked of 'hey i haven't been fucking around here for the past 10 years, look i can play guitar now too!'

With guys like Fortus or Bumblefoot or Buckethead holding down the fort there's not need to even bother with a guitar.

I LOVED rio even with Axl's look then.  He had the most energy and tried out new stuff ALL through the show.  I still have the VHS I ordered back in 01' from it.  17 years old rockin out the new guns back then, such great memories......

I was worried Axl was trying to become a guitar playing singer...Dead Horse made sense...Rio didn't... peace

Oh come on, wouldent you wanna see Axl come out and bust into the sweet child intro  hihi

N0  hihi  But it poses an interesting question...would Axl or Guns N' Roses have the same appeal if Axl just stood in front of a mic stand the whole show strumming a guitar?

Hell no.  im convinced a band can never go real far without a "designated" front-man.  Though the Damn Yankees were close.

what about metallica?

GN'R have always done 100% wireless since they got huge.

To be sponsored by PRS you just need to be huge. They give you 2 guitars a year, a discount on additional guitars. My band tried to get sponsored 2 years ago and that's what their Artist Relations Dept. told us. If you're signed, have proof of a tour (or in this case RIR is big enough to count as tour) and you have a following, you are sponsored. Axl wouldn't have a single problem getting signed... being that he is frontman for one of the biggest band in rock history.  peace

how do you know that?

He doesn't look to pissed to me during this song... I can't hear what he's playing, i mean he's basically just riding the low e string, but to say that the thing isn't plugged in needs a little more explaing...

He would never intentionally pretend to play guitar... never.

It makes sense, they send guitars to Axl for free and they get to use his name.

I actually like the idea of Axl knowing how to play guitar good, it will help with his songwriting.  I mean, he should never be the main songwriter when it comes to guitar, or main player, but at least he can help out more in that department.

That is the funniest thing I've heard all day.  Thank you.
