I am The Shackler in the Rye with Diamonds!!

« on: June 19, 2007, 05:28:56 AM »

Not only has Axl's hair changed over the years but he has modified his stage moves quite a bit.  I was watching some of the Ritz 88' and revisited Axl's snake like moves that made him unique back in the 80's.  Then in 91' just as touring began to resume prior to the Illusion records they played the Ritz again and you could see the trademark moves but with more of a high energy running around and jumping. (Isn't this the show that Axl injured his ankle jumping)  Then when they moved onto the stadium tours the stage grew and Axl ran around like a madman for almost 2 and half hours straight...and the trademark snake moves were at a minimum.  In 01' Axl tried to keep running around but it was never quite the same as 8 years prior.  And now in 06/07 we are seeing Axl with some new moves, running around and using the mic stand alot more like back in the day.  Bottom line is: Axl is the most exciting front man to watch whether he is planted centre stage with the mic stand or running from side to side.  I personally enjoyed watching him run around during the 92/93 shows!

You should have seen the moves he pulled when he was dancing just in front of the raised stage! Adelaide! It was during a lengthy guitar solo.....

Did we manage to get to bottom of the question posted in another thread?

I've heard that Axl "copied" his snake like dance off of Davey Jones from the Monkees...probably complete and utter bullshit.

I always liked how Axl incoporated the mic stand into his moves too...he beat it, threw it, flung it, hurled it, spun it...you name it!!? rofl

I heard he got his moves from a band called Snake Island, I think it was, they were from the same scene. Dunno how true that is, just the lead singer said it.

I was watching E! sometime ago now, I think it was one of those 100 somethings, at somepoint they talked about Axl and the reason for the snake dance was that Axl had weak ankles, they had to be taped before a show, also the reason why while dancing he uses his upper body more. Don't know how true this is
