from everything i've read southpark episodes are finished a day or two before they air, not a lot of time to leak, unlike say...10 years that axl's been working on CD Wink

I saw a Comedy Central special about the show, a couple of years ago, which illustrated how their computer animation takes very little time, whereas a show like the Simpsons takes months, and it's how they're able to be so relevant to current events.

the best turn around time in terms of current events was when Sadam was captured in Canada - they even added the beard on to the fucker.  i think it literally aired two days after the US captured him.  the episode completely ripped on Canada and had a great Sadam cameo at the end.  totally hysterical
