What's also interesting to note about this album was that Stinson brought the majority of these songs forward to GN'R,

a.
that is not true..

Somewhere there's an interview with Tommy where he states this, it may not be word for word, but something to this idea. Go find it, it's out there somewhere.

What Tommy said was there were a lot of songs he would've never have thought to have written (like the title track) if it hadn't been for Axl's influence, and that Axl had been incredibly supportive.  Not that he wrote the songs for GN'R, and Axl told him to make a solo record from it... the songs wouldn't have fit the musical direction GN'R are taking.

I was looking for a quote on it, but I could very well be wrong. I do remember that I read that too that Axl was supportive of the songs, and it could have been that, but I swear I read something else. As soon as I have some time I'll do a search for it and post it, or "withdraw" my post. Thanks.

Due to the amount of time I have to search for this interview (I checked a couple and perhaps you're right - the interview by HTGTH was the closest I came to finding it) I'm going to edit my post to be fair to those involved (Tommy and Axl). When I have more time I'll look and post it if I find it.

I have some promo CD's where there's a voice saying "this is a promo" throughout the songs. Not sure if you want to chance that unless someone else has a copy already and can verify that it doesn't have this mechanical voice throughout.

a.

Not the case with Tommy's cd.

To be honest, this is the first time I hear something like this...

Same here, From what band are these promos?

Actually, funny enough the one I can remember is from BT himself.

actually....i heard that interview where he said he offered the songs to axl, he never said he wrote them for gnr, but he did say he asked axl if he was interested in using any of them.

and VGH is an excellent cd.  it's been in the cd player in my car since i bought it, which was in like 2004 when it first came out.  it shows the full range of tommy's talents, he plays alot of the instruments himself, and i believe he did the mixing and all of that good stuff himself.

i also had the privilege of seeing himm live a few times.  first time he was with the figgs (an awesome little punk trio). it was in like 2003, before he released vgh.  he did most of the songs totally acoustic, just him and a guitar, then jammed some covers and a few of his songs with the figgs.  second time was in early 2005, and he was with dave phillips (from the catholics)and it was mostly guitar and dave playing the steel slide, tommy playing guitar, really cool show also.

anyone that doesn't have vgh, GO OUT AND GET IT!!

I'm glad someone else has heard or read this interview somewhere! My memory was a bit skewed, "he offered them to GN'R", not written for GN'R. That's more like it, and I do remember that clearly now, finding the interview will be another story!

I don't think so.

It's just wishful thinking from some that he would.

Maybe a. have read a Tommy interview that we haven't read.

This interview is old, I see it was posted a long time ago.  But if I had not read it before...maybe others had not also.  I thought it was a good read.

"With Axl, he doesn?t really have his own vision. He likes to take everyone?s two cents and throw it into the soup, get everyone involved and kind of mold it that way. Axl could really take production credit on this record because he took the best of each of us on each song and crammed it together and made it a musical piece."

...

"Axl is more of a collaborator, maybe even to a fault sometimes. He wants everyone involved. Part of that may have come from the old band, where everyone wanted him to sing their songs but didn?t want to play the other guys? songs. It would be like, ?I?m not going to sing on your song unless you play on his song,? and then it becomes infighting and that kind of shit. That doesn?t really keep a band together. On the new record, everyone?s got a bit in there, their part of a song. It lends itself to us feeling a part of the whole record."

Some nice qoutes there that should say it all.
