The Piri Reis map shows the western coast of Africa, the eastern coast of South America, and the northern coast of Antarctica. The northern coastline of Antarctica is perfectly detailed. The most puzzling however is not so much how Piri Reis managed to draw such an accurate map of the Antarctic region 300 years before it was discovered, but that the map shows the coastline under the ice. Geological evidence confirms that the latest date Queen Maud Land could have been charted in an ice-free state is 4000 BC.

So what do you think? If indeed Antartica was inhabitable around 4000BC I would say the possibility of people settling there is very probable. After all we'd colonized every other contintent by that time.

I've always been puzzled by the fact that historians have discovered agricultural activities from before 10.000BC, but claim the knowledge got put on hold until 5000BC. I find that strange to believe.

So is there an ancient civilization we don't know about, or are being kept in the dark about?

It could simply mean
A mini-Ice Age froze it
After it was mapped,

But my belief is
It lends credence to
Pole shift theory.

All very likely, but it doesn't explain why the map contains details only 19th century technology could provide.

If the map does actually show contours as it appears , it is undoubtably coincidental . With a lot more of the available fresh water locked up in the Polar Ice Caps , the sea level was about 160 m lower than at present ; too , if there were any records from 10000 ybp (highly unlikly considering the age of the oldest known documents) they are lost to history .

Undoubtably? The ice is 1 km thick, and the accuracy displayed is something they need arial and satellite devices to achieve, today.

The original documents may be lost, but obviously some of the information still remains.

Dude I hate to pee in your Cheerios . but after perfunctory search , it appears that there are perfectly logical explanations the document without resorting to consiracy theories or the illogic , furthermore the site you linked to , gave an age of 6000ybp since Anartica was ice free . Anartica has not been ice free since the Pliocene (1mybp) , therefore the credibility of that site is questionable .

If you got any more logic explanations I'll be happy to hear them.

I just don't see how such a map could be made unless the continent was ice free for a period(s) after Pliocene or due to continental movement. Not to mention the high accuracy it displays, requiring at least some level of higher technology.
