Appetite for Destruction
Every song from this album except the track 'Anything Goes' which was co-written by Chris Gardner

GNR Lies
Patience, Used to Love Her and You're Crazy

Use Your Illusion 1
Live and Let Die (albeit reworked), an Instrumental version of Don't Cry and November Rain

Use Your Illusion 2
Knocking On Heavens Door (albeit reworked) and You Could Be Mine

The Spaghetti Incident
Down on the Farm

Of the tracks that the band have performed from the classic era, every one of them was either written prior to the recording of Appetite for Destruction or its a cover version. At that, the cover versions have all been in some way reworked to suit the new band.

Doesnt that strike anyone as slightly odd?

Isn't any label interested in the band performing some more tunes from UY1 or UY2?

Are the band forbidden to play tunes from Use Your Illusion?

Forbidden to play tracks from Use Your Illusion? confused
Um, ever thought that the band plays the songs they want to play?
The recent addition of Lies and TSI tracks is very positive, they play what the public wants to hear.
Besides, in an online interview recently Bumblefoot (I think it was him, could have been richard though) said that it's not impossible that the band will play Estranged (or was it Civil War? Don't remember, but it was one of those) in the future. I think the setlist so far has been perfect, and I can't wait for them to add more new songs when Chinese Democracy is out! peace

I'm afraid you'll have to come back and tell me who that actually was and what song they were actually speaking about

To each their own peace .. but I would'nt go that far

Once the album comes, I'd like to see them stand behind the new material to the point where they play some of the classics BUT concentrate heavily on the new album's stuff

I dont think there is any way of preventing any artist or any band from playing or covering any song in a set.  I dont think it would be possible for GnR to not be allowed to play songs from UYI as mentioned.  I could be wrong - but I doubt it.

still hoping to hear locomotive live one these days though - that would be special.

Classic era?? What the fuck?

Lets recap, the band last released a studio album on Nov 23rd 1993

They played no public concerts between July 1993 and Dec 2000, and they have not released any official material containing any members of the band who joined from 1994 onwards.

I think it would be right to call the songs played by the Guns N' Roses 85-93, the Classic Era of the band, since Classic denotes something which has past us and matured over time, but cannot be fully recreated to the expectations of the memories created when it originally happened

I think it is an interesting idea, maybe these are the nebulous legal problems that are always alluded to. ?

So bittersweet this tragedy...

I had a similar thought...

Perhaps (just perhaps) there is a lawsuit which forbids Axl to play all after-Lies songs... Maybe this lawsuit was intended by Slash & Duff... Maybe Not...

I would if I could! Perhaps someone could help me out? It was an online interview conducted by a fan, posted on this site not long ago. Ring any bells? If so, post up the interview.

If you look at it this way, Dont Cry, You Could be Mine, November Rain were all around during the Appetite Era, i know for certain Dont Cry was recorded as a demo back then, and a version of You Could be Mine was done during the Appetite era but didnt come out sounding right. November Rain was Axl's baby so i would say its highly probable he made damn certain he owned everything that went on with that song.

As for Knockin on Heavens Door and Live and Let Die, they are covers so he effectively has free reign over how and when he plays them! Same with Down on the Farm, he can skip old Guns legal arrangements and go right back to the original source!

In other words we really have no idea whats going on behind the scenes, but the above does make sense!

Read above, they were all around during the appetite era and had been recorded in one form or another, therefore in order to protect them they are most probably part of the Appetite package!

Jonx

But there are several other tunes recorded before AFD that they don't play, for example, Back Off Bitch, Bad Obsession, Yesterdays, all fairly popular tracks with the fans.  I can see the link, but it's slightly tenuous.

Nonetheless, I'd love to hear the band do some Izzy numbers, stuff like Dust N Bones, 14 Years, Pretty Tied Up and DTJ.

yeah they were around before.. but they are part of the "UYI package" on not the "appetite package" (not knowing wtf i mean hihi) but they (the songs) as we all know were on UYI and not AFD.

exactly..

and yeah i'd love to hear "14 years" n' PTU also, and duffs "so fine" but the reason that they don't play those songs are not because they are not allowed to play 'em, they can play whatever fucking song they wanna play.. as i said before they play what they wanna play and what the majority of the crowds wanna hear
