Just listen to the lyrics and what he's trying to say! The lyrics in "Better" are basically him describing what has led to this point in his life and why it started to get fucked up (he didn't know Better).  IMO this song is the Introduction of Axl's story of why things are the way they are, and it's what Chinese Democracy is all about.  I wouldn't be suprised if it is the 1st track on the album as well.

(The song kicks ass, but I think the real reason Axl will pick this 1st is because of the message that it sends out) IMO

yeah right...
before you say what "WILL" be... try having the knowledge about the rest of the songs...

maybe it will be "sorry" because they screwed with us so long.

maybe it will be "silkworms", because we're pussys full of maggots...

or madagascar, because that's the only place where CD will be a hit...

We dont know, you dont know... nobody knows... let's leave it at that, and wait to see what the future brings... eventually.

I do agree the most effective first single would be something NOBODY has heard that would blow our minds.  a good rocker.

Better is a great rocker, and one of my fav GNR songs ever.   And it will do well as a first single if its released.   But something no one has heard will draw a little more attention.  Better is a year old to the hardcore fans and now has gotten more mainstream listeners with its radio airplay.

I think Chinese Democracy and I.R.S. would both work pretty well too.

No way of knowing which song it'll be but I'm sure it'll be one that kicks ass. That seems to always be the formula - a kick ass 1st single and then a mellower 2nd.

Im 99.9 percent sure that Better is the first single I only hope they don't change it because of the recent leak and play on radio stations.

Can someone ban this pathetic person already? Every one of his post disses the band. One of his earlier posts today called the band retards, then he said Axl is full of "that brown stuff", for more examples check his post history. What a sad hater.

I thought it was funny, besides your posts tend to be "Believe in Axl he will lead the way etc..."  After a certain amount of disappointment all fans will be a bit pessimistic.  Its just natural.  Im starting to think Better wont be the first single myself and Will is a pretty definite statement.  People have a right to be bitchy, theyre fans they want the album, who cares.  How are they hurting you.  Axls not god dude, he fucks up.  Hes still my favorite musician.

Yeah I hope the 1st single will be something that we haven't heard yet, but I was just stating what I think the reasoning is behind making Better the 1st single.  But then again I could be wrong...

GNR always put the huge ballad as their 2cd single. Sweet Child,November Rain, so don't think Maddy will be the first single but I can guess it will be the 2cd hopefully because it is great! The first single in 2002 if the album was released would probaly have been Better. I love the song but in the book called ''The band that time forgot'' Axl said in his words he is saving the Big Guns - meaning songs for later. I personally think it will be something unheard of very fast and heavy but also catchy to mainstream. It could be Sorry, Prostitute,Suckerpunched, all those sound like jamming tracks but who knows for sure?

just listened to better on the radio. 97.9 the loop ( chicago ) i no it's not "official" or whatever but it was the first time i got to hear it on the radio so i was excited when the female d.j said it was coming up. first before she played it she said she only heard ten seconds of it and that she couldn't stand it. when it was over she asked 3 or 4 people what they thought and they all said the most negative things. what i'm getting at is,  does better or any of the songs really have what it takes to break free from all the haters out there ? i have been a die hard fan all my life and i know that my devotion to this band has blinded me from a few things throughout the years but i know a good song when i hear it. with what is out there in the musical world today you would think that fresh gn'r would be well ebraced but all the negativity is really making me think. i have no doubt that there is going to be a huge witch hunt for axl rose.........like never before.

I kind of agree, I'm anxious to hear if any of the other songs have that obvious commercial hook.

One word-'' Madagascar'', if and when GNR decides to put that out as a single the whole world is gonna follow the fad on that song because that song alone is gonna bring in a certain audience and break all barriers with the Martin Luther King speech. The songs publicity alone and message will put GNR back over the top. And all those fans that opposed well......
