..my copy of ?In Search Of? arrived today. So I?m happy Cheesy

Disc 1 is good and the sound quality is good. For some bizarre reason I had preconceived ideas that the audio might sub par. But it?s not. Just started playing disc 2, and the 1st track reminds of a certain Bob Dylan song with what sounds like a tambourine playing. Looking forward to hearing the rest. So I?ll catch you later.

Here?s some details about the various discs that make up ?In Search Of The? from Buckethead

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.1 ?I?

Track 01 ? 00:58 (note: atmospheric sounds)
Track 02 ? 14:50 (note: Laidback, quite groovy. Good track)  ok
Track 03 ? 02:58 (note: The intro sounds slightly medieval)
Track 04 ? 02:37 (note: Sounds experimental)
Track 05 ? 00:44 (note: Good while it lasts. Sounds movie like)
Track 06 ? 15:02 (note: Stacks of shredding going on here)
Track 07 ? 01:49 (note: Sounds experimental)
Track 08 ? 05:33 (note: Sounds experimental)

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.2 ?N?

Track 01 ? 01:31 (note: Starts out good, and reminds me of a Bob Dylan track towards the end)
Track 02 ? 10:51 (note: Laidback, quite groovy)
Track 03 ? 03:02 (note: Starts with spooky church bells, followed by drums beats. Empty sounding)
Track 04 ? 02:12 (note: Upbeat. Sounds experimental. Little guitar playing)
Track 05 ? 15:50 (note: Laidback. Much guitar. Liked this track very much)  ok
Track 06 ? 03:18 (note: Sounds experimental. There?s an organ sound and levels of distortion. Not really my thing)
Track 07 ? 06:04 (note: Sounds experimental, with sounds of audio tape messing up. Not really my thing)
Track 08 ? 02:15 (note: Sfi-Fi atmospheric sounds, with close up audio sfx near the end. Interesting )

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.3 ?S?

Track 01 ? 14:54 (note: Funky sounding from the outset. Reminded me a little of Prince)
Track 02 ? 02:18 (note: Starts with the sound of wobbly church bells. Close up audio sfx near the end)
Track 03 ? 03:48 (note: Drums and Guitar being played under water) Catcher in the Rye has a similar underwater sound
Track 04 ? 07:37 (note: Deep base  sounds with a guitar in the distance. Good track)
Track 05 ? 04:30 (note: Opens with a beat that?s almost heart beat. Sounds experimental )
Track 06 ? 10:32 (note: Opens with drums and guitar. Reminds me of jazz music)

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.4 ?E?

Track 01 ? 03:21 (note: Liad back drums n?guitars. )
Track 02 ? 07:16 (note: High pitched. The best experiment track of the first 4 discs)
Track 03 ? 09:02 (note: The intro sounds slightly medieval)
Track 04 ? 03:31 (note: Interesting. Boom drums, sounds muffled.)
Track 05 ? 05:26 (note: Deep bubbling. Could work in a film scene.)
Track 06 ? 03:29 (note: Guitars and drums, good stuff)  ok
Track 07 ? 04:08 (note: Sounds experimental.)
Track 08 ? 06:49 (note: Sounds experimental)

------------------------------------------------
I tend to view 4 sides to Buckethead?s music:

1. Great guitar work, great drums and good tunes.
2. Funky. Some synths, possibly a drum machine.
3. Ideal for films. Atmospheric. Not as experimental as 4.
4. Sound FX, bleeps, and blips. Experimental. Hardcore.

I am definitely a category 1 person. I like category 2 too, and some of 3. 4 I find interesting, difficult to like.

So are you happy with the CD's? What is your overall impression?

There's some good tracks on there, there's some atmospheric tracks on there too, and then there's the weird experimental tracks that I don't like so much (but I expected this). I have only played the first 4 Cd's. I need to listen to the remaining 9 to get a proper impression.

I'll probably compile a 'Best Of' CD containing all the best tracks once I've played the lot  Smiley

Axl could probably release a '1000 disc box set' containing all the extra stuff from Chinese Democracy. Not that he would, as he only wants the fans to hear the AAA mixes.

-

'Peppers Ghost' is really worth getting. I liking the album alot. It's stopping me from playing 'In Search Of The'.

cont...

Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.7 ?C?

Track 01 ? 02:59 (note: Slow beat with guitar work over the top)
Track 02 ? 16:40 (note: Like Track 01 Vol.7 only with some extra crazy sounds)
Track 03 ? 04:14 (note: Mostly drumming and sfx)
Track 04 ? 04:25 (note: Might work in a Bruce Lee film as two fighters weigh each other up. Slight tention)
Track 05 ? 01:53 (note: Quiet empty landscape. Ideal for a film)
Track 06 ? 11:06 (note: Experimental ? feat.some little guitar tunes towards the end complete with machinegun fire)

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.8 ?H?

Track 01 ? 10:20 (note: Drums and Guitars, with a tune. Drumming is slightly poppy. Not bad)
Track 02 ? 02:31 (note: Slow drum beat, with slow slightly funky guitar. It turns experimental half way through)
Track 03 ? 05:34 (note: Upbeat noise and distortion. Monsters fighting? There?s some guitar)
Track 04 ? 09:55 (note: Funky)
Track 05 ? 02:38 (note: Heavy drum, plinky guitar)
Track 06 ? 00:40 (note: Metal drum beat, that almost sounds like a clock ticking)
Track 07 ? 03:33 (note: Experimental, wibbly, wobby sounds. Might sound good set to a film set on the moon)
Track 08 ? 04:40 (note: Squahy beat, twangy guitar. Experimental)
Track 09 ? 02:15 (note: Experimental)

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.9 ?O?

Track 01 ? 09:24 (note: Sloppy drum with guitar playing over the top. Interesting)
Track 02 ? 04:24 (note: Hard to explain. Drum and guitar with a sound like its play in a room 3 rooms away)
Track 03 ? 05:24 (note: Vocal, ahhh, ahhh, ahhh. Follwed by experimental crazyness)
Track 04 ? 16:52 (note: Normal drumming, with experimental crazyness over the top)
Track 05 ? 06:36 (note: Experimental near the start, that turns into a cool calm guitar near the end)

If Buckethead could have made a whole track sound like the end part of Track 05 that would have been amazing.

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.10 ?F?

Track 01 ? 05:16 (note: Slow beat. Might work in a film featuring large doom ships - duh.. Duh.. DUH..)
Track 02 ? 09:37 (note: Slow beat with guitar over the top. Slow funk)
Track 03 ? 06:49 (note: Slow. Atmospheric sounds)

Track 06 ? 03:37 (note: slow experimental notes being played)
Track 07 ? 0718 (note: slow quite experimental )
Track 08 ? 02:07 (note: slow quite experimental with a deep bass noise)

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.11 ?T?

Track 01 ? 02:57 (note: Laid back, drums and guitar. Groovy sounding)
Track 02 ? 04:25 (note: Experimental drumming, like fireworks being set of, with a hint of guitar)

Track 04 ? 04:06 (note: Opens with a paino. With deep base about half way through. Atmospheric)
Track 05 ? 06:18 (note: Experimental)
Track 06 ? 03:14 (note: Slighty funky guitar back by a medium beat. I liked this track)
Track 07 ? 03:25 (note: Solo guitar. Experimental. No crazy beelps and stuff, only guitar. Interesting)
Track 08 ? 03:55 (note: Experimental. Mainly drum orientated. Not my thing)
Track 09 ? 04:05 (note: Opens with a subdued guitar. And continues that way (no drums etc)
Track 10 ? 04:26 (note: Experimental)
Track 11 ? 04:49 (note: Experimental, more tune orientated than Track 10. I could grow to like this more)

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.12 ?H?

Track 01 ? 03:14 (note: slow beat with a guitar that reminds me of up beat Jazz)
Track 02 ? 10:49 (note: Opens with a low beat, and light guitar. At 2:00 the drums stop and the track turns experimental)
Track 03 ? 02:18 (note: Medium steady beat. Some bizarre guitar)
Track 04 ? 10:24 (note: Opens with wobbly ahhh, ahhh synth vocals. Some drum beats kick in. Experimental)
Track 05 ? 03:02 (note: Experimental. Lots of small noises)
Track 06 ? 03:34 (note: Experimental organ player. Sounds single channel)
Track 07 ? 01:20 (note: Opens with a mellow guitar. Good while it lasts.)
Track 08 ? 15:19 (note: Opens with a twang guitar and a steady drum beat. Hints of Jazz. The best track on Vol.12)

------------------------------------------------
Buckethead ?In Search Of The? Vol.13 ?E?

Track 01 ? 00:45 (note: The longest track on ISOT coming in at 45 minutes. Opens with a thudy beat.
35 seconds in and the same sound from Vol.2 Track 01 ? 01 plays (bouncy Bob Dylan tambourine).
There?s some experimental guitar playing over the top.
The bouncy Bob Dylan tambourine beat plays through the whole track.
Various guitar sounds play over the top. I?m not sure what to make of this track. At 45 minutes it?s different.
Between 26:52 and 28:56 the guitar switches from noise to a mellow tune (these 2 minutes were my favourite).

If you were thinking of buying one 1 disc from ISOT, I wouldn?t recommend ?In Search Of The? Vol.13 ?E?. They should make ?In Search Of The? Vol.13 ?E? FREE once all the other disc?s have been brought. If you buy all 13 disc?s, you do effectively get ?In Search Of The? Vol.13 ?E? free anyway.

I have to admit, there?s something about the ?Bob Dylan tambourine beat? that plays throughout that works really well.

Track 01 from Vol.2 ?N? (of ISOT) reminds me of Bob Dylans's 'Rainy Day Woman' from the album 'Blonde on Blonde'. It's the same beat complete with the tambourine. The same beat re-appears on Track 01 Vol.13 ?E? (of ISOT) and plays throughout the entire track for a whopping 45 minutes.

'In Search Of The' has it's moments where it is really good. I'm liking 'Peppers Ghost' more so, and 'Slunk Crime Scene' is so much better than I was expecting it to be.

I live in Sweden, will there be a lot of vat and custom fees if I where to order the whole bunch of cd:s?

I've had a lot of problems with that and it's starting to ruin me.

The customs duty here in the UK on 'In Search Of The' was 40 euros  Sad

Single CD's appear to bypass the customs people, probably because they are not over a certain price.

If you'll order it from TDRSMusic you probably just have to pay the normal 17 dollars in shipping costs and nothing else.
