i notice that a catchy choruse makes u earlier tierd of the song.
I wont say Better has a catchy choruse either. Not Estranged, Not Coma.. But they are still masterworks!

Catchy choruses can work, but the main flow in a song, and the whole setting is the important thing.

And again, Coma and Estranged don't have choruses!!!!? do you guys know what a chorus even is?

i would say thay have.. just because they dont sound the same, because Axl sings different some instruments are playing the same way
and i concider that a chorus.
Just because they dont sound poppy, there can be a chorus in a song.

And it can't be worse, if it's better.

A friend of mine said that once. So true.

"Oh my god I can?t deny this"? I love every bit of the song.

What is the typical catchy chorus like? Like born in the USA oh oh?
Maybe I don't like catchy choruses.  Undecided

I just listened to OMG for the first time in about a year, and as I was listening I realized how bad the chorus to the song sucked.  the choruses to all of the new leaks suck as well, and are definately the parts of the songs that are going to limit their popularity.  Axl used to write such catchy choruses - most of the choruses on AFD, Lies, and UYI were great.

And the verses are still really good, it's just the choruses.  WTF happened?
Izzy left.

When you listen to Izzy's music you also miss Axl's verses (sometimes).

The songs are what they are.

I don't think they should add catchy choruses to them just to make people like you happy.

Coma has no chorus either.

I guess something happened to Axl's ability in 1991 then?

You're basing this on a few songs, why not base everything on one song released in 1991 and say he "lost his ability" back then? Ridiculous speculation.

/jarmo

Jarmo, I'm not saying that the songs need choruses.  There are many great songs by many artists that don't have choruses.  what i'm trying to say is that in those songs that have choruses, they are nowhere near as good as the old choruses.  that's all.

Anytime I listen to Better, I have the chorus stuck in my head. IRS has a catchy chorus. The other songs aren't really radio-friendly, so a typical hook-chorus isn't necessary.

The Best Thing about AXL besides his Fantasic deep toned singing voice and sweet twang that thrills me is his remarkable play on words, Im thrilled to suggest that Axl writes as poetic as Jim Morrison and as political as John Lennon, keekee.....those are the only traits Axl has that I like.... Cheesy

Argh! What a display of ignorance! I mean, come friggin' on... The guy (nonlinear) has a very good point, and is very good at explaining it, yet some people seem to filter out everything that actually makes any sense on this forum.

Let me try to summarize:

        1. Not all songs need choruses.
        2. Not all great old GNR songs have choruses (NR, Coma, ...).
        3. Some great old GNR songs have great choruses (PC, SCOM, Don't Cry, ...)
        4. Better, TWAT and IRS all have choruses, so does OMG.
        5. In all of the above songs (except OMG), the verses are very good, of exceptional quality.
        6. In Better, TWAT and IRS, the choruses are not very catchy, nor very good.
        7. A catchy chorus is not necessarily a good chorus (OMG, for instance).

Please note that some of the above mentioned statements are of course my opinion, and there's no accounting for taste. But, please, try to discuss the points that the man is actually trying to make instead of missing the point completely and using the "differently structured", "we don't need choruses", "choruses make a song sound poppy" arguments to counter his (or my) opinion about the choruses (which are, in fact, very much present) in the new songs.

Yeah the chorus' aren't that good I suppose. They're ok but they're no paradise city style. In better I don't even know what the chorus is. Is it that "No one ever told me...." part or the "all that I wanted was...." part? But I actually think the Oh My God chorus is pretty good , but a little muddy. The verses to that song really blow though.
