No kidding, for those complaining about ticket sales, with no access to raw data, shut up.  To those who roam the boards, and there are many, who know this business, you look like complete and utter fools.

Get this through your heads---ticket sales are doing very well!  Also, they set-up certain smaller markets for only 8000 or 6000 seats.  Figure it out:

5000 tickets sold at $70.00 is $350,000.00, added to 1000 seats at $50, which is then $400,000 at the gate.  An average concert attendee spends $50 a piece on concessions, so that is another $300,000.  Do you get the picture?

GNR will make over $1 million in  Toronto, and NY alone.  They made over $1 million with 15K in attendance in Miami.  Ticket sales, for a rock band these days are not what they were.  GNR are doing great.

Ticket sales are fine, and have been.  Get a life, and get your butt to the show!

Um... The Pollstar chart has nothing to do with ticket sales, it only ranks the search frequencies.   Artists are ranked by the number of times their itinerary is requested by fans visiting the pollstar.com Web site on the Internet.

And all the 'power index' mean is the percentage of the chart leader -- the top name is always 1000, the others just in relation to that figure.

Ticket sales and grosses has nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Pretty sure GNR is far below RHCP and others.  They're probably ranking so high because with such poor promotion, fans have no where else to go for the info, they have to search for it a lot more often.

I know what Pollstar is. It will obviously show u ticket sales becuz im sure atlerast half the ppl visiting there listings are buying tickets.

Also when a band is consistently 1-10 common sense will tell you that that band is selling good each week.

They rank so high, because they have so little promotion?

It must be topsy-turvy day on planet Stupid.

The chart may not have much to do with sales. ?Does that mean the tour is selling shitty overall? ?No. ?Being GNR is toward the top of this chart every week mean they are on top of the world again and the tour is selling excellent? ?No.

The answer may be somewhere in between. ?

I'll rephrase that...  THIS Pollstar chart -- the one quoted that show's GNR at #3 -- is not a sales chart, it just records search hits.   It only shows how many people are searching for or clicking on the itineraries.  It is NOT based on sales.

People may be interested to know when and where GNR are touring, but that's not to say they're going to take a chance on a no-show or contend with the late starts and actually buy a ticket.  And, as noted in my previous post, with virtually no promotion, the curious millions have to actually check an itinerary to know they're touring, they can't rely on the multitude of ads and articles, 'cause there aren't any.

However, there is ANOTHER Pollstar industry chart that does rate concert grosses and attendance, although I do believe since a lot of the companies stopped reporting their grosses, it's not what it once was.  It always takes a few weeks for the info to come through, and it's unlikely GNR are reporting their grosses (and knowing that operation, they're probably making sure nobody else is either).   Probably by the end of this week, there will be more statistics available, if not for GNR, at least for some of the other acts on tour and some comparisons can be made.   The GNR sales are mixed at best.  If that was a sales chart, they would definitely not be ranked ahead of the RHCP or many others on that list.

Gotcha.

I still think it's a testament that GN'R are being 'searched' at #3, considering they've had NO promotion whatsoever. Not long ago, they were #1 when the NA tour kicked off.
