I'm really surprised that a lot people haven't heard this before! I remember hearing this online about 2 or 3 years ago.

Wow, I never knew I was on the "inside" Wink

This version is pre AFD. I personally think they should have held off releasing Lies and made a full album in 1989.Take the 1988 songs off Lies and add in ?Nov Rain ?plus Civil War, throw in the Garden and Yesterdays which were already sort of in the mix and you would have a killer single album follow up to AFD. Distinctly different-semi acoustic semi electric- yet cool. Patience and Civil War as the singles. Hindsight is 20-20.... hihi

an acoustic version of november rain is from the demos from criteria studios....late 80's....I have them as im sure everyone on this board probably does

Thanks.  I have this whole demo but never knew where it was from.  I always assumed it was pre-appetite demos.  Shadow of your Love is on there, Back off bitch, and pretty much all of what was on appetite.

Crazy story how i came across it.  Was at a youth group dance at the local parish and i asked the DJ if she had November Rain (this was December 1993).  She said she only had one GNR cd, but she would see if it was on there.  a litle while later she told me that she had the song and it would play it next.  What she played was this version of the song.  I rushed right over to her was like - "Where did you get this?"  She said she didn't remember!  She gave the cd to me....it has a pic of the band on the front and a close up pic of izzy on the back with 13 or so song track listing.  She must have seen it in my eyes that there was no chance I was going home without this cd, bc she just looked at me and smiled and said "You can have it."   I'll never forget that and seeing this today reminded me of what it was like being 15 at the youth group dance and hearing this when I requested NR.

What I don't have is the piano driven demo?  what is this you say?  it's not on the cd i have.  is that posted anywhere?

I don't have it downloaded, but I heard it awhile back. It's all piano.

I downloaded both demo versions of November Rain a good while back from that Greek website, I didn't realise there was a whole tape of these demos. Anybody out there able to get me a copy or upload it somewhere?

GnR should've done an acoustic album of all their songs. Axl's voice is so fuckin cool alongside an acoustic guitar

i still hope the secret acoustic gig in london during the european tuor will be end up on a dvd somehow...

i must say, the UYI version are a hundred times better
i totally agree, i never liked this version the first time I heard it, shame there are versions around that don't even compare to the masterpiece which was the finished track that appeared on UYI I.  I felt let down by the demo.

I disagree, it's always good to hear songs in development, sure it doesn't have the sound quality of the finished product but its a demo of a beautiful song and there's alot of emotion coming out of those demos. Give them another listen, there's alot to be appreciated from them. The UYI version is a masterpiece but you can't be disappointed by the demo. To me that's the GNR I discovered back in '88, a raw, skin and bones band. Although I still love the music after Appetite and Lies, I felt some of the music was over worked. First time I ever heard November Rain on UYI I was listening to it thinking..'what the fuck is this?'...I thought the wrong tape was put in the cover but I loved it as soon as the vocals kicked in

I've heard that this acoustic version is the long fabled Sweet Lorraine.  I can't confirm or deny it without solid proof but I do have a vinyl record from the eighties that has this version on it listed as Sweet Lorraine.
