And this is further reasoning. They want me to wear long, panths, khaki's are preferred, for just one day...tomorrow. But, I don't own khaki's so I'm just wearing jeans.

Also, they want me to wear a shirt with a collar...stupid.

That's not why I took this job. I don't wear stuff like that. It's all casual for me.

Anyways, I'm just gonna put on some jeans and throw on a hawaiian shirt.

Why exactly are they asking you to dress in khaki's?

Why exactly are they asking you to dress in khaki's?

Cause they're are important people coming in...

But, you don't have to wear khaki's, that's just the preferred option. Long jeans are just fine...

But, your shirt has to have a collar and I don't think I have any of those.

I know what you mean... I hated my old job because I couldn't wear dark nail polish and I could only have "natural-looking" haircolor...   Roll Eyes

Cut around the collar where the seem is, should fray just right.  Looks great, I used to do that all the time.

every job has something like this from time to time. "important" people coming in and stuff, the bosses make the staff dress up to make it look like they run a friggin' tight and organized business.

Yep, that's exactly what it is. I think it's stupid though...

If you pull it off right wearing a collar is great! Nice tight shirt. Open neck. Ride that bitch.

A Hawaiian shirt, and you're complaining about having to wear long pants (... Oh, I can speak American)?, making the prefered option shorts and a hawaiian shirt. What are you, a retired forty year old?

LOL. Nope I'm far from that age. Reached the nice ripe age of 21 this past July.

But, as an update to this story, we wear long panths, some nice shirts and no hats. I'm actually excited now to wear those things...except for the no hat thing. I've worn a baseball cap for so long that I kind of forgot what it's like not to wear a hat.

I am currently at work.

I was here last night (Friday) at 11 pm.

I just came in at 4 am this morning (Saturday).

Kinda makes a dress code seem a tad trivial, doesn't it?  Remember, no matter how bad your job is, something out there is always worse.  Flipping burgers for example.  Porn theatre janitor.  I can name plenty.

So how many of you have ever worked a 16-hour day?

Because I'm about to.

For those who don't know, I'm a radio DJ and producer for four Clear Channel-owned stations here in Wichita Falls, TX. Only two shows regularly run live needing a producer-- our morning show and the weekend sports show, both on the AM station. In the spring we run high school baseball, and in the fall it's football. And yes, you guessed it-- this week marks the start of the high school football season, hence the part where I have to be here until 9 or 10 pm.

It's rare I ever have to do anything with the morning show, but the host and the regular producer are both going on a remote broadcast, leaving me as the only guy who 1.-- Is low enough on the totem pole to get told to do this; 2.-- Has the knowledge to do it; and 3.-- Is available to do it because I don't have school or a second job. So, I have to be up to do the weather and news broadcasts, as well as drop in a couple spots that air at certain times in the morning (a health minute type of thing, as well as a Nascar update). Hence me being awake and in at work at 5 am.

I'm also the guy who puts commercials into our computer system so they can be run on the air. Usually I would get these things done on the weekend when I'm in here anyway to do the sports show, Sunday church service, and weather updates. But now I've been told I should have them all done by noon on Saturday because the production director doesn't like having to do a huge log check every Saturday, when he's not even supposed to be here.

For every commercial that runs, we have to file an affidavit telling when it ran and on what day. I'm behind about a month on two stations, and they have to get done today and/or tomorrow as well.

Now here's the kicker. The commercials require a studio, almost all of which are taken up from 10 am to 7 pm. The affidavits all require a computer, which are of course in the studios, all of which are taken up from 10 am to 7 pm as I previously mentioned.

Aside from all of this, I'm the midnight to 6 am weekend DJ on the country station here (Sadly, I was picked as a "celebrity" judge at a chili cookoff; I guess in a small city, the definition of celebrity is pretty wide). Fortunately, all my voice tracks are pre-recorded, so I can do them earlier than that as long as I can find an hour or so to break away from my computer work and get into-- let's say it together-- an open studio, which does not exist from 10 am to 7 pm.

So basically, I get to spend 8 am to 10 am in one studio, then the next 8 hours being shuffled around from computer to computer in three studios whenever one opens for about an hour, then 2-3 hours running the board for a high school football game.

Fortunately, as far as I can tell, it's the only time I should have to do this. I had to be in 4 am to 11:30 am last Saturday, and I have to be in 5 am to 8 am on Monday. And I'll have a few late Friday nights with football games. But so far, never have I had both at once. As of right now, there should be no more 10+ hour days in my future, I hope.

All this for about $6 an hour.

The moral of this story: while radio may sound like a really cool career, it is pure hell when you start in it.

I work them quite a bit.

I'd bet Kujo does too.........that guy never goes home.

I have heard the radio industry sucks, pretty much at every level.

What's the big deal with the whole dresscode thing Markus?

I mean, I wear a suit everytime there's some big customers coming at the office or if I'm about to take them to lunch or to drink booze.

I get the whole khaki thing ain't really you but it's not like they're stealing your identity if you just play along?

What kinda job is it anyway?

Damn, you should be there rent free, or half rent at least.
