I am not a big fan of the drum machine loops that occur in a lot of the new songs.

They will be gone hopefully, on the finished tracks (or at least dropped down in the final mix yes)

i say yes. all of the new songs that we know of and have heard are IMO better than for example anything goes, move to the city, sympathy for the devil, you're crazy, my michelle, reckless life, LALD, dust n bones, perfect crime just to name a few..

it's not that i don't like the songs i mentioned, but i really like the new songs  ok

NO!  The leaks are better than some things off of TSI and the "fillers" from the UYI's but not some of GNR's "best work" imo.  The Blues isn't a demo or I would say this is the one exception.  The writing and music of this song is an instant classic.

BETTER is a great song as well and is much better than some (filler or TSI) songs that I have heard by old gnr but still pales in comparison to any of the "big" GNR songs.  TWAT has moments of greatness but never quite succeeds.   IRS is a pretty good song but when compared to songs like Paradise City, WTTJ, Civil War, Estranged (etc..etc...) it is nowhere near the same class...outside of the Blues none are really.  Buckethead's contributions took the songs up a notch but if his work is taken from the songs then they automatically lose "the edge".    Anyone who doubts this statement should go listen to those demos where Buckethead isn't a part of them.

I agree that "Better" is not nu-metal by any means. Axl's not rapping like Jonathan Davis from Korn or growling like Corey Taylor from Slipknot. It's too insanely catchy and beat-driven to be nu-metal like that. If anything, the juxtaposition of the poppy verses and choruses and the metal-ish middle section remind a little of System of a Down's schizo style fusions with songs.

I love "There Was A Time", for me it's like a modern day "Estranged". I love the riff to "Chinese Democracy" and the beauty of "The Blues", and the Beatles-esque flow of "Catcher In The Rye".

I love the songs, but final judgement should be reserved for the finished products.

There was a time ranks up there with WTTJ and NR for the first time I heard it. I was just absolutely amazed by it the first time I heard it. No song has done to me what TWAT did to me in a loooong time.

You really can't make that judgement from demos and live performances.

However, from what I've heard, there is a lot of promise there.

The new songs are good. A couple of them would've been highlights on the Illusion albums. But overall, CD does not appear to be equal to AFD, UYI 1 or 2.
