Well from 2002 VMA, the producers gave GNR 8 minutes of screen time. ?So if you're GNR - what would you do with 8 minutes?? ?At that time everybody wanted to hear how the new band would perform the classics AND everybody wanted to hear something new. ?I think Axl was stuck between a rock and hard place...damned if you do and damned if you don't. So given 8 minutes air time, he did the best he could. ?But now it's 2006 and I don't want them to do WTTJ again, shit it's been done twice already, lol. ?I think the logical solution would be to do the 1st single. ?

VMA's are August 31st.

I know it doesn't really mean two shits, but Dizzy's planning on touring with HnB at the time. They tend to announce when he's not around, tho.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this tour can't go much past the end of this year without a new album before GnR start to really hurt their credibility. They've gained a ton of it back by getting out on tour and kicking ass, the longer we wait for an album the more chance they have of undoing anything good they've done this past summer.

Damn straight, although I'll say they need to have something (a single/a release date/an album) to offer around Inland Invasion the latest, otherwise they'll go back to the '02 routine. They could manage by only doing cities like Boston and NYC, but what would be the point, really? Playing AFD with a new lineup for kicks?

I don't think MTV is as important as it was when our band was on top in the early 90's.? Therefore, I don't really give a shit if they play MTV or not.? I would rather see a performance on the Grammy Awards (whenever that is).? It's apparent that MTV is turning its back on Axl and probably has the feeling that they gave him his chance and he blew it.

Exactly.

Axl and MTV don't care about each other anymore, IMO. Grin

I don't think a new appearance is gonna happen but IF it does, they should play the exact same stuff they played in the VMAs 2002 (Jungle, Madagascar, PC), just to show everybody the in-your-face improvement.? Wink

Maybe they could replace Madagascar with Better, which should be the 1st single.

And definately have announced a release date before all these happen...? yes

But, as I said, I don't believe they're gonna do an MTV appearance.

I almost thought I was going to be the first one to write it:  I don't think they're going to play this POS show. They did it in '02 and this year it seems to early in their schedule.

I just need to say that for the people who want only old songs played, you guys are nuts!  This is about promoting a new album.  Why the hell would they play only old songs?  Huh Huh Huh

Don't get me wrong unless Slash and co are present I don't want just nostalgia but I also think the classics need to be around to keep the general interest. I'm just thinking about how it will look on tv playing or song or 2 that nobody knows will keep the crowd reasonably flat they need something they know and then it them with the new. I'm not saying this should always be the case but without an album they need an oldie imo.

At first I thought, no old songs.  But I think you are right.  Thinking of the most popular GN'R songs...let's face it, they have milked Jungle already.  The other obvious choices are SCOM and NR.  I think opening with NR would be cool.  Just do the song as is, and then when they get to the first solo...Axl sings,

"wouldn't time be out to charm you, whoaa..."

then, instead of the NR solo, everything stops for half a second.  Then Robin does the intro to Better.  Then they play that song.  That would fuckin' rock.  It would be so out of the blue, but everyone would know it's Guns N' Roses because they did NR first.

I think the VMAs are going to happen.  They need to promote this thing and there is no easier way to get exposure than to appear on the VMAs.  I think once the performance is done Axl will give us the next day to look forward to...the release of the first single.  Album in November.  That's my call at least.  ok

Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

Axl isn't gonna play the VMA's.? Maybe if he was a gangster rapper or an emo fag maybe,

He did in 2002 before the, uh, 2002 Chinese Demaocracy tour. And some would say he looked like a gangster rapper.

I can understand why people don't like them, but a medley is really a good idea to introduce the band to the masses.  Imagine them doing something like Chinese Democracy - The Blues - Better.  It gives fans a sense of what's to come more than only one song would.  But make the first single something we've not heard yet, so that when it does come out everyone is surprised.  I think if they did something like this it could work.
