IMHO punk, just like rock has been mixed in with mainstream pop.  so punk nowadays more looks like emo, and all the artists nowadays are just complete tools with nothing different to add to the music scene, nothing interesting.

How do we get this far on a topic of punk rock and nobody mentions The Buzzcocks or The Replacements?

BTW, the first punk rock song?  My Generation by The Who

Depends what you mean by punk rock. I dont mind 'real' punk rock, like the clash, the jam, the stooges, the mc5. Thats all good stuff, but if your on about those bands that all sound the same, like good charlote, i fuking cant stand those fucking winey voiced so called punk bands. To me thats the worst music ever next to rap and hi hop. The american music scene is at its all time worst, id rather listen to fukin 50s swing music thn that fukin shit.

I love it. But all these comments about Greenday and whatever miss the point. Go back to the originals, to the 1970s when punk was born. Ramones, New York Dolls, iggy Pop, Elvis Costello (yes), countless others (because  I am drunk and tired and can't remember them all), but THOSE  are the bands  that  defined punk. IMO GNR's Spaghetti Incident is pure genuis because they took great songs and made them  better.

Punk came along in the mid-late 70`s as a reaction toward rock music that was getting a bit overzealous ( 25 minute organ solos, etc). Brought rock back to a simpler format.

Lots of groups now have been influenced by it, but to call Green Day punk is like calling Taylor Hicks rock
