It looks like the leaks are the way the songs will sound on the album. I remember people saying that these songs were a work in progress and that the arrangements  and transitions were not so good because they were demos.  Now that we know that these are the final versions of the songs , do you guys still feel they could have used more work  or are you happy just the  way they are?

i'm more than happy the way they are but who's to say they can't be worked on still (not that they need to be), the album isn't done yet.

They are still demos, the album versions will sound much fuller. Its like the ?garden demo and the live version. They are totally different but the progress and arrangements are the same. The only transition most people didnt like was better. That is the one demo that is pretty much done but TWAT still has orchrastion then need to add.

Also since they've been played live does this mean we can post the demos yet?

It doesn't matter if they've played them live... the songs can still change, just listen to the Chinese Democracy boot from last night.

i noticed some slight differences to the demos even on that crappy bootleg ok

the " it was a wrong time for me..." part for example...  the guitars sound much better there

and did they add a new solo to IRS??

they are definetly not the final versions, u can hear fizzing, catcher in the rye cuts off and the guitar in irs hasnt been layered yet, these are just a few of the things i can think of off the top of my head, the structure of the songs are probably complete, but the final cut will at least sound much crisper.

The new songs are ready. TWAT in particular fucking rocked last night. Better and IRS were not performed flawlessly by any stretch last night, but the demos tell me that they're more than ready. Madagascar was beautiful as usual. I don't see what more needs to be done (or could be done) to Chinese Democracy and The Blues... both really solid non-filler songs.

He needs to release it. Period. As the NY Times review said... that's the only thing holding this band back right now- that they don't have their OWN album out there so that the audience can respond to THEIR songs too.

i really hope the leaks are not the finished songs. they just dont sound right n (appart from better which didnt sound good at all live) they are very forgetable. the only song that stands out from the new ones is the Blues. its just a great song. not very optimistic about the new album- 10+ years in making =very high expectations. its not fare to the name GNR if this album is not great...good is not enough it has to sound great. hopefuly im wrong i really wish im wrong.

There are a number of changes to the songs comparing the live performances with the demos.  Tempo changes, solo construction, intro and outro changes.  Yes, they are fundamentally similar constructs, but there's some HUGE differences (hell, just adding live drums is a big difference).

Agreed, I noticed several differences in IRS and TWAT (and thought the live versions were SUPERIOUR to the leaks).  TWAT truly blew me away, the guitar work was just amazing.  IRS had that "punch" that the leak was lacking.  Maybe its b/c it was a live version and the band was really into it, but I think the new arrangement as well as a few tweaks made it a much more fierce song.  I have to say, the crowd seemed least interested in hearing that one though, the reaction wasn't that great during it - but I was going fucking insane.

TWAT & IRS are definitely different now than the leaks.  Chinese Democracy has also changed dramatically.
Better sounded pretty much identical to the leaks though.

One of the best songs I heard Friday, my personal highlight, was There Was a Time.  The beautiful, beautiful, beautiful intro. can be heard quite clearly on the audience bootlegs.  It's great because people couldn't sing over it!  Seriously though, it's like the perfect foil to the first line, "Broken glass and cigarettes."  I just picture Axl returning home from a show looking at a stunning picture of an ethereal Stephanie...and then reality kicks in with him focusing off of the picture and seeing a "lived-in" home set-up that obviously illustrates his chick's infidelity (messed up bed, lines of coke, other man's clothes, etc.)

The last line of this song is sung with such pain...simply beautiful.    love
