I have an old article(2002) from Guitar One that says he was GNR's guitar engineer then went on to become their guitarist. It also says that the songs from the first APC album were actually songs that Axl rejected(and Billy was getting bored) so he left with his songs to start APC.
billy didnt wrote the songs for GNR.. he was only the enginner of the record..
also the majority of the songs were written in 95-96... 2 years before he started hangin with GNR
he left gnr.. cuz he never wanted to be that long in gnr.. after all he was rite... cuz he could have stayed 6 more years waiting axl finish the record...
i think he made the rite decission.. cuz APC rules!
also he is the one who worte all the music in APC... maynard writes the lyrics and he the music...
mer de noms... was completed musically even after the band was formed

Hmm. Howerdel would be an interesting choice. I'd be happy enough with him, and he does at least have some history with Axl, unlike many of the possible picks for guitarist...

As far as I know, APC isn't done. Where did you guys hear this?
I know the band is forced to take loooong breaks while the Tool (fucking awesome) thing is happening, but I never heard anyone say APC was done for good.

Tool Guitarist Adam Jones says it in the latest edition of Guitar World ok

where did he say that? I must have missed it.

I think he is the most logical choice if Axl can get him. And I'm not even saying for a long term basis, but maybe just for the tour. I mean think about all the money being thrown to the other guys in the band to be on stand by and at Axl's call. If I was Billy, even with the amount of money I'm sure he already has, if Axl threw 1-2 million at him to tour for a year, that would be tough to turn down. It would also get him more exposure to different types of people who don't listen to A Perfect Circle, and obviously help fund his solo stuff. He really is the only one not being heard from in the group.(APC)  Josh is touring, White is touring with NIN, James Iha supposedly is going back to Pumpkins, and Maynard has Tool. Billy is also a guy who likes to tour,(said so on a Radio interview here in Phoenix when they were on the Lollapalooza tour) and I don't think his solo stuff will be out for a while. Good chance for him to go on the road, and I think with the current incarnation of Guns N' Roses, with all the musicians being proffesionals, he would get along great.
