Tell us some interesting stories about when you saw GNR live.
I saw GNR at Leeds in August 2002. Here are some things that happened:
~ I got up very early from my tent and me and my friends went down to the main stage. It was like 7am and there was no one around apart from stage crew and stuff. We went right to the front and saw a drum kit being tested with "GNR" written on it...! "That's Brains Fucking Drumkit". We were amazed and got really excited.
~ As the show started with Jungle I was stood with my hands firmly shoved into my jeans pockets. Then, suddenly, the crowd rushed forward and I couldn't get my hands out of my pockets in time and was literally being carried along with the momentum of the crowd. Then my shoe came off...! I tried to reach down and retrieve it but I was being pushed and I didn't get it. Yes, I watched a Guns N Roses show with one shoe on! After the show, when everyone had left, I stayed around and searched for my shoe. By the grace of God, I managed to find it. It was very lucky as we had three days of the festival left and they were my only footware..!
~ During "Paradise City" two guys right in front of me started fighting. I was pissed off because I had to spend the whole course of the song trying hard not to get punched by wild, swinging arms...!
~ After getting my shoe back and catching up with the 60 000 crowd heading back to the tent fields the main chat you could hear was all about Buckethead and his ridiculous solo. There was also a very positive response, people were acting like they were very lucky to have witnessed such a show.
~ Back in the tent field, before I headed off to bed, I must have passed about 10 people who were all singing GNR songs with acoustic guitars. One guy was even singing "Madagascar", which impressed me a lot. There was also a guy right outside our tent doing it too. He kept playing "Patience". I was lying in my bed, trying to sleep, and I remember thinking "I've just watched a two-and-a-half hour GNR show and now I've got to go through another...!". It was ok though, he could have been singing Creed.
Got any stories...?
