I'm a llama!

Liberals believe every human being has a right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", even if this happiness involves destroying future happiness. I would be happy knowing my offspring could enjoy a healthy environment, but liberals disagree. They say doing things like turning off the water when brushing one's teeth is helpful. They make things easy to do, and they don't show how great the problem really is. They create boogeymen like global warming and ignore the annihilation of entire ecosystems. It's hard to focus on the big issues; ironically, they think global warming is as bad as it gets!

This isn't done for profit. Liberals hate profit and progress. We conservatives want long term yields and sustainable growth. As the saying goes, jobs DO grow on trees! Liberals want more food and hard earned capital going to 3rd world countries where women have 6+ children in their lifetimes. They have a hard time thinking in the long term. We could reduce environmental damage now by eating soy and other vegetables, but in 20 years, the population growth will eliminate any gains, and we would be stuck eating tofu. How about keeping the herd thin so we can all enjoy meat, and a high quality of life? So what if it would involve keeping down the breeding class?

Be wary that a lot of "conservatives" emphasize economic growth more than real economic growth per capita, average number of hours worked per household, and higher costs of living. They need to get out of the office and go for a walk outside. I think better economically, and in all other ways, when I'm in the mountains. This is priceless.

Obviously, we don't allow the free market to import 100% of our food. For political reasons, we can't risk our national security on depending on another nation's food. Trade is risky and it shouldn't be completely free. Independent industry is too important. We can't risk entrepreneurs giving up because of perceived overwheming competition from India/China/Kyrgyzrijistan. The situation we're in now is already bad enough with oil, but luckily we're working on the problem right now in Iraq. Imports should never be so important to an economy as oil is, and food could be.

Likewise, the free market has to be restricted to preserve long term profits. There are too many mediocre businessmen who can't think more than 5 years into the future. They're the types who day trade and watch Cramer's "Mad Money" and think they understand how the market works. After just 2 semesters of macroeconomics, I understand that capitalism is lot bigger and more complex than it seems. The environment, the source of our resources, ties it all together, and most average people can't see well enough to "zoom out" and see the big picture. They shouldn't hold the power that they do.

Many Americans doubted democracy when Bush was elected twice. I've always doubted it's efficiency. I believe the founding fathers were aiming for an oligarchic republic, where the sharpest 10% led the country and the peasants followed, both doing their jobs. It's true that property and a poll tax was required to vote, and it came out to about 10% of the population. They're turning in their graves now that people who can't fill out a stupid punch card right are electing the leaders of our country!  rant

Man, I feel a bit better after getting all that out...

I wish the conservatives in power would reverse the deficit instead of mortgaging the future for the present.

You can't trust either party when they have too much power.

Touche, but Clinton had had a budget surplus back in 2000.  Tax cuts and increased spending are more harmful than tax & spend in my opinion.

He did have a Republican Congress from 94-98.  I think they worked well together all things considered.

I completely agree.  Too bad they never got that universal healthcare thing done.  GM would've loved that right about now.
