I don't know if any of yu guys around here hav read it but the Da Vinci code is an absolutely fantastic read as ar many of Dan Browns' books. I saw y'day on ITV news channel they're trying to make the Da Vinci Code in2 a movie. It will star Tom Hanks if i'm correct as Robert Langdon. Also, there was a nun hu was praying oustide a cathedral to stop the film being made inside becuase she finds it offensive.
R any of yu guys excited about this news?

"24" (2001) creator Joel Surnow thought that "The DaVinci Code" would provide a great storyline for the show's third season. Surnow asked his boss, producer Brian Grazer about acquiring the film rights to the book. Author Dan Brown had no intention of his book being adapted for a TV show, and rejected their bid. Months later, Sony Pictures paid $6 million for the book and hired Grazer as producer.
France's Culture Ministry has granted permission for the film crew to film inside the Louvre.
Hans Zimmer replaced James Horner (long time collaborator with Ron Howard), while Horner took the offer to compose the music for The New World (2005), when Zimmer couldn't accept it, because of scheduling conflicts.
Officials from Britain's Westminster Abbey refused to allow filming to take place in the Abbey, claiming that the book is "theologically unsound". Instead, the filming will take place at Lincoln Cathedral in eastern England.
'Russell Crowe' was considered for the role of Robert Langdon.
Julie Delpy and Kate Beckinsale were two of the original people thought of for the role of Sophie.
Sophie Marceau, Audrey Tautou, Virginie Ledoyen, Judith Godr?che, and Linda Hardy were auditioned for the role of Sophie Neveu. Against the odds, Audrey Tautou was offered the part

I liked the book but am little suspicious how it will work as a movie. I'd like to see Arnold the Terminator as a Silas..

if there's any1 who's surname is Plantard or Saint-Claire, supposedly French, then they're likely to b Merovingian; family line of Mary Madgalene and Jesus.

they're filming some scenes at melrose abbey. i really hope they don't fuck it up or turn it into a tourist site. It's an incredibly important and special building that doesnt deserved to get fucked over by Hollywood.

I enjoyed the book, think it will make a good movie.
Tom Hanks would probably be perfect for the role of Robert Langdon, better than Russell Crowe IMO.

Are you aware there is no historical ground at all in this book ?
Are you serious ? Do you really believe the merovigians are the descents of jesus christ ?

Its a FICTION work, and it was sold as a fiction book. I dont know why people took this story so seriously. It was a very good and enjoying read, but it was in no way a history book. And I am REALLY looking forward to the movie, especially with Audrey Tautou, who I really like as an actress, and Jean Reno, Tom Hanks, etc. I hope its gonna be great.
If you are interested in reading more about what Brown is talking about in the book, check the history of the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc. That is VERY interesting. There are many books about them, but be sure to read one written by serious historians. Oh, and Saint Clair was a fake. His name is just Plantard, he added de Saint Clair later on.
Read about the Knights Templar, they really existed and have a fascinating history.

the book is based on complete facts as far as pagans and christians go. there was a battle between pagans and christians and christians did successfully dismiss pagan symbols as something evil such as the rams head as the devil. i dont believe Mary Madgalene and Jesus were 2getha but the Priory of Sion did exist as does Opus Dei. Priory probably still does exist. It's fiction but has a lot of historical and factual background so 2 speak

Believe me, I know all about this. I did my homework, after I've read DVC (big fan, I got the illustrated version and all), I've read some historical books about the Templars, the Popes, Monarchies in Europe (Scotland and France especially), so I know there's a factual background behind the book. What I meant is that DVC is a great book, but people shouldn't take everything that's in it for granted. There are some parts that are right but there's also a lot of facts that are wrong. To me it's still one of the best books of the past few years.

The Priory of Scion, as it's depicted in the Da Vinci Code, is a hoax, perpetrated by a rather odd Frenchman by the name of Pierre Plantard.? ?The hoax was furthered, unwittingly, by the authors of a book called "Holy Blood, Holy Grail", who were taken in by the hoax, but whose authors have since acknowledged such.? It was actually founded in the mid to late 50's by Plantard and 2 or 3 associates as a way to try to gain influence within the French Government.? The documents spoken of in DVC were planted by one of Plantard's associates, who happens to be a noted Merovingian historian.
The real Priory (actually Order) of Scion was a monastic order that was absorbed into the larger Jesuit order in 1617 AD.? It was a very small order, with nothing peculiar or notable about it....and they certainly had no contact or influence with the Templars.? It was tiny, even by monastic order standards, had no notable members, had no political influence within the church, and was actually disbanded for no other reason than it was too small to sustain as a seperate order.
So while, yes, A version of the Priory of Scion existed within the Catholic Church at one time, NO, it bore absolutely no resemblance to the PS that Dan Brown (lifted almost directly from "HB, HG") writes about.
Here's a pretty good citation of the goings on:
