You see like every budding guitarist, i want to achieve as many tones as possible. and effects pedals can help this. but it seems a bit of waste spending tons of money on 10 different BOSS effects pedals when i can just buy one multi-effects. I have tested different Pedals at my local Guitar shop but have never tested a multi-effects pedal. Are they any good? If so, which is the best for say ?100-?200?

Many thanks for any help.

Well, I can tell you this: You can better spend some more money on one single effect that you'd really like, then buying something with dozens of different effects. Most effects you will use one or two times for fun and then you'd get bored of it and you'll end up using... lets say.....two effects of that whole package.

More importantly is that there is allot of difference in soundquality. Anolog sound effects lets say...... a wah wah (vox, dunlop) or a 'fuzz' pedal (fulltone) sounds much better then those same effects combined in one pedal. Altho those pedals are pretty expensive, they are solid and keep there value.

So my advice to you is: write down which effects you'd really really want to have..... and go check out some guitar stores who have those particular effects and test them your own. Each guitar player haves a different taste so it's very personal which one you think sounds the best.

That is what I would do..... but if you do like to have allot of different effects well yes.....then you'd might wanna check out an all-in-one effect board. (dunno which ones are good, cheap of those)

Finally, I don't know how long you've been playing, but if you do play for a little while now ( lets say 5 years?) then you get annoyed by those all-in-one pedals coz of the sounddifference between the anolog (stand alone effects) ones.

If you're an effects novice, I would advise picking up a cheap multi-effects unit just to check out and really get to know the different types of effect that there are, and use that as a starting point towards building a collection of decent stompboxes.

You can get, for instance, a zoom multi-effects board for under ?100 that does everything, from acoustic simulators to phasers, flangers, chorus, wah-wah, auto-wah, distortion, delay, pitch-shifting etc. You name it it'll be on there. Of course the sound quality won't be as good as individual stompboxes, but it's a worthwhile investment for getting familiar with different types of effects.

If you already have a clear idea of what you need, then definitely invest in stompboxes instead. They are more durable, and easier to use (no fiddly programming patches etc.)

not sure what you can get in that price range but if thats all you can spend its better going with single stompers.

i have a BOSS GT-6 and its one of the best out there. the only thing id rather have than it is the Line 6 POD xt live. they dont only carry alot of effects, but are great as tone shapers, which is my main use for it.

if you want to record and have a drum machine go with Digitech GNX4. if you want tone go with BOSS or Line 6
