Given Axls public strain with Geffen i.e. The Greatest Hits album, the 13 Million in production costs, CD off of Geffens upcoming releases online.  And Axls love for Sanctuary Records, Could a possible reason for CDs delay be that Axl wants to get dropped from Geffen and "jump into bed" so to speak with Sanctuary.  Anyones thoughts?

sure why not. they probably should have dropped Axl after buckedhead left if you ask me. maybe they've heard some shit though and it was so good they said "fuck yeah axl, take another 20 years if you want".

Then again maybe Axl is an alien and he isn't even on earth at this moment. That may explain the delay too.

If you look at the european world, how we al laccepted to let china export in our countries and how we refuse now, and how china is getting very upset, saying we were not ready for the liberal economy of china, it seems like a chinese democracy could lead to.....Huh??

I think axl will come out when he is ready and i am starting to think that he always knew.  ok

Maybe Axl sold his publishing for 19 million so he can pay geffen the 13 million dollars back, buy out his remaining Geffen contract and jump ship.

possible?

Thats somewhere along the line of what I thought.  With the supposed rumor of Geffen not funding CD anymore, its obvious that geffen doesn't care as much about the idea of CD, rather they care about the financial stake in the album.  And with Merck running the show at Sanctuary, he could get perhaps more of a push ie promotion, with Sanctuary than with Geffen.  Lets face it, Geffen are more concerned with this hip-hop, emo-movement than with rock.  And it's obvious that Sanctuary is all about GNR.  Sounds like a wise move jumping ship to Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary record label is small potatoes compared to Geffen (interscope).
Geffen isn't interested in just letting Axl walk away. Do you even know if
Axl has an "out clause" in his contract? I really doubt it.
Despite Axl's behavior, his label has no interest in giving up their interest
in GNR, and Sanctuary, who has ZERO heavy hitters on their label, don't have
a proven track record to handle GnR. Let's not confuse Sanctuary's management
CO. with their record label.

Universal is massive, and can deal with Axl's crap, knowing they'll get a big return on their investment over time.

Robbie Williams is actually a very good artist. I enjoyed his Royal Albert Hall dvd as well as the knebworth. But I doubt he will do well in the USA? I thought he wasn't interested in doing the states.

Me And My Monkey is my fav song of his by the way.  Lips Sealed

Geffen is almost completly different to the label Axl was dealing with back in the early to mid 90s, since then it has been swallowed up by Universal Music Group under Vivendi Universal. Sanctuary is the polar opposite to this, its the largest independent record label out there and is increasingly becoming a safe haven for older artists. I can see why Axl would want out of Geffen and on to Sanctuary.

Geffens attempt to try and force Axl into releasing CD was probably a result of pressure from those above Geffen. Vivendi was loosing money during 2002:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/2515393.stm

and although $13 million is a small amount to a huge company like that it would still stand out big time on any review of Geffen, not to mention they were probably aware of how much CD would generate.

When Axl unsuccessfully sued hoping to stop the release of the greatest hits, Geffen prevailed and released it anyway. My guess is they left a very very very pissed off Axl sitting at home who is fed up with dealing with huge corporate companies such as Clear Channel and Vivendi who constantly try to fuck him. I wouldnt be surprised if he wants out. For all we know he is refusing to release it until he is off Geffen as punishment for the whole Greatest Hits thing.

Eleven years is long time. One has to wonder how much of those past eleven years found Axl and co. working days on end and coming away with nothing. Not that it excuses taking that much time, after a certain period you should have a pretty good idea of what you want and how to get there, but it does take some searching.

I remember an interview with Billy Corgan talking about making the Adore album (not that I give a shit about Corgan but it gives you some perspective), and he spoke about it taking a long time to make. He said something along the lines of 'there were plenty of days I say there and at the end of a 15 hour work day I came away with maybe one usable drum loop and a bassline.'

My only fear about CD is that it is going to be way overproduced. I don't doubt the songs will be there, but its going to be very dense.

how much money do you think Geffen made from the GH release?

although they have invested $13M for CD, you have to factor in the earnings from GH.

Quote
I remember the press release said that Axl sold to Sanctuary his publishing rights to dozens of tracks from Chinese Democracy that he wrote for Universal
And I remember thinking why they put expressly "for whom" in that short announcement.
Everything of the game is still dubious. We may not be wise even after the event in many cases.

Anyhow, it's Merck, a CEO of Sanctuary who stated we would see Chinese Democracy this year. ok

Although not a heavyweight, Morrissey hits well.

Sanctuary seems to be oncerned with music and artists far more than the other label.

It's obvious the plan with Sanctuary is to attract heavyweight bands through their "caring" of the artists and what a better way than GNR?

Morrissey?? Not Heavyweight?? thats the understatement of the year. I think 11 people outside of the United Kingdom have heard of him.

Back on subject......

Lesty is 100% correct, I think everyone gets too caught up in the fact that Axl's managment company is affiliated with a record lable of the same name. This would be along the same lines as Axl signing a record deal with Cleopatra Records (the lable that releases the horrible tribute albums). His best bet is to use the resources of one of the largest record lables in the business, not jump ship and tour minor leauge baseball stadiums with Iron Madien or do the County Fair Circuit with Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Yep, oldies are good..He can sing a duet with me... hihi hihi :hihi:I allow him... rofl rofl rofl rofl

Has spielberg contacted him yet ? Cameron's still with Justin ii'm affraid...( Posh soon on the way  Wink Wink Wink)

His songwriting isn't bad at all, he made a great duo with Guy Chambers, i know he is working with Duffy now and it'll probably be interesting too, and rumors of a Velvet revolver future collaboration have been spread thanks to blabbermouth ( and we 'd all love it)
