Have you ever been to a rock concert in Germany, Italy or Spain?

Darling, you have no idea!

Why do you think so many people film their concert DVD's in Europe and not in the US?

Compared to europeans, the american audiences are on valium.

Then I ask you, have you ever been to an American concert?  Probably not.  To make such a bold statement that Europeans are 'crazier' at concerts is such a subjective and foolish thing to say, I don't even know how to respond to it.  Exactly what great bands were you talking about that record their DVDs in Europe?  Metallica recorded their S&M cd in San Francisco, Guns N' Roses recorded their concert in Japan, Kiss recorded their DVD in Austrailia.  People don't watch DVDs to see the audience, in fact very little of the audience is ever shown and when it is, it's the audience as a whole or some really hot girl or crazy fan.  Americans invented Rock N' Roll and some great European bands really fuckin took it to a whole new level.  I have nothing against Europe and I've been there and really love Germany.  But if you want to talk about real fuckin' rock concerts, I suggest you go to a Woodstock the next time (if there ever is one again) you can.  All of the world's greatest bands either come from America or go to America to become huge.  I don't need to justify my points any more than citing that.  For you to claim that Europeans somehow are harder rock fands than Americans would be like me saying American Ramstein fans are more devout then German fans.  Obviously everyone on this board speaks fluent English, but the majority of the people at these "badass" European concerts don't.  When it comes to actual awesome partying and Rock N' Roll, no one comes close to America  ok

I doubt Guns will be at Download, Feeder are headlining Friday, Iron Maiden are hoping to headline Saturday, and Black Sabbath are headlining on the Sunday, and I don't think Axl will want to play second fiddle.

Apparently Maiden are playing in Italy and Switzerland on the the Download dates.  The only confrimed act so far is System Of A Down, everything else is rumours...

Well, the headline and main support acts are announced this Wednesday (Feb 2), so we will find out for certain then. ok

But trust me, Black Sabbath ARE headlining on the Sunday. hihi

And if Guns were going to play on the Saturday, I think we would have heard some rumblings within the camp by now. peace

I really doubt if that's a problem.
Indeed the fight will be mainly in America just because the music industry is far different than Europe's. Pop Idols rule out there (no offence). The bad point is that whatever new stuff comes from America (good or bad) spreads like a fuckin' disease in Europe too later.

No, it does present a problem.? If you don't speak English, then when you listen to Guns N' Roses you are essentially taking away any contribtution Axl makes to the band.? In my humble opinion, a true GN'R fan is attracted to the music because of the depth or emotion; not just the music itself, but the lyrics.? As a native English speaker, it is hard sometimes to understand what words Axl is actually saying (thus the problem of people jointly compiling lyrics from songs from the 2002 tour).? Once you know what words Axl is saying, you have to put them into context to get the message he is trying to deliver.? Someone who likes GN'R just because they sound cool is no different than the American (or European) idiots who enjoy the latest Pop craze to hit the market.? So while I'm not saying that a non-english speaker can't enjoy GN'R, that listener is no different than someone who loves Britney Spears because all they want is an image.? I would assume that most of you on this board would agree that people who listen to music for image (be it GN'R or Pop) are not the same caliber of fans as all of us are.? Again, this is just my opinion, but? I find it hard to swallow that Europeans as a whole are hungrier for a new GN'R album, if we define that hunger as an actual desire for emotionally deep and meaningful music.? peace

Not that true at all ... I began listening to GNR when I was 15 and my english was .... pretty bad ... well I was doing good in class but 15 years old french girls speak bad english believe me... and I became a gnr fan in a second. Most of my friends who still are gnr fans today don't speak english ... they know the lyrics and look up the words in a dictionnary, that's all. If your theory was exact what to say about Brazil, and the crowd at RIR III ? And I listen to Rammstein and i don't understand german either.  Grin

I've been to both ... small venues and arenas in America and done it all in Europe. If the European crowd is crazier it's mainly because of the security ... here they are more lenient than in the states ... Pogo Pogo Pogo !

people calm down. we`re all hungry to see gnr and it doesn`t matter where they play, i hope that they will play SOMEWHERE this year. but i`m from germany and I never saw gnr live so i hope they come to europe this summer and play a couple gigs in germany, too.

and i think also that european and south american crowds are crazier than american crowds Roll Eyes

in response to the main point of the thread, i think GNR would do better in europe at the moment, it's not about which country or continent has the better tradition of rock, it's the fact that GNR's name has not been driven through the mud as much over here. it's almost like a rite of passage for teens into rock to buy AFD, even if they don't like the genre as a whole, if you like a guitar, you get that album.

for instance, adler's appetite sell out 600/700 capacity clubs across mainland europe, then play to 50 people in the USA.

obviously america has a bigger audience and therefore bigger potential, but the way things stand atm, GNR are more popular abroad. consider the leeds fest, they headlined it and pulled in something like 60/70k people, and they were the toast of the press for all of a week! Smiley
